M6809 Boot disk: How do I make one?

I have an eMachines M6809. Just got it.
Can anyone tell me how I can make a boot disk for it?
This computer has a DVD +- RW drive.
I want to be able to partition the hard drive and then make my own Ghost backups of the C:\ drive. Much better than doing a restore with the provided disk and having to reinstall all programs.
This has saved me so much grief over the years but I can’t make a disk that will boot.
It comes with a bootable DVD disk that has dos files hidden on it somehow.
I’ve used Roxio to, supposedly, create a bootable disk, but it doesn’t boot.

Might want to try http://www.bootdisk.com/ where you can download the necessary files to burn to a boot disk.

I'm beginning to think that it may not be possible to do since the Hard Drive is using NTFS and the DVD/Cd is possibly FAT 32.
I'll have to see if Ghost will support NTFS.

You can use Nero to make a bootable CD, Roxio's products don't support this. I don't know how Ghost works, but I used Drive Image to do what you describe. With Drive Image you boot from the Drive Image CD to run the restore program, therefore you don't need to boot from anything else. I used this method to install a 7,200K hard drive in my M6805

When using the restore DVD that came with thte machine, you are given the option of booting to a command prompt or running the restore. Just plop the DVD in the tray and selcet the appropriate option when it first pops up (option 2 if I remember correctly).

Also of note, it loads the typical files into a RAM drive when using that option (drive A:\), such as FDisk, edit, etc.

Ghost should work...

The restore disk that comes with the laptop is made by ghost. This disk restores the hard drive back to its original state on an NTFS file system. So, based on that, Norton Ghost should support NTFS file systems.

deepsix: you may want to consider Drive Image 7. I've found it alot better, faster, more reliable and easier to use than Norton Ghost.
FYI: Powerquest, the developers of the well-known Partition Magic and Drive Image now belongs to Symantec [Norton].
Hope their products remain as good as they were until now.
