On my desktop Ive always been a loyal NVidia fan. Now I own the top of the line laptop with the top graphics card and its ATI. Can anyone tell me where to find the latest ATI drivers and how the whole thing sets up? Is it alot different from NVidia? The ATI website has already pissed me off.

Thanks for the help.

Hee hee

Dont worry - ATI is on its way back and here is a set of links for you to use.

Get the drivers here : http://mirror.ati.com/support/drivers/powered.html

and after you download them follow these instructions to get it installed without a headache :

I recommend you install Direct X 9.0 at this point of time.

You can see my settings and results for the tests on my website here :-

You can follow my instructions here for installing these drivers to your system :-

The performance increase is significant with 3D Mark 2003 but there is a drop in performance with 3D Mark 2001 SE. I think Direct X 9.0 support is what this is all about.

OK so Im looking on the website and it says that they recommend using your notebook dealer's web-page for video card driver updates. Ill use the weblink you gave me if its the correct one, but I cant fine anything that says its for the mobility 9000.

My driver version is 6.13.10.6218 provided by ATI Technologies. It doesnt say anything about a Catalyst Radeon 3.2 (7.84) which is why im hesitating.

I checked the Sager link, but im not installing it yet because it doesnt say anything about a version number on the file available for download. I dont want to install it without being sure they have the latest update.

That setting link you have is awesome but maybe you could include your current version number. Its under Video Card Settings/advanced/adapter/properties/driver. That way when people want to see if they have the latest version your link can tell them right away.

Also just a note but the last two links didnt work.

Sorry but I feel like such a rookie at this.

Thanks again for any help.

Just being redundant ....

Do this :-

1] Get this driver from ATI :

http://mirror.ati.com/support/drivers/powered.html

its right on top for WinXP. Download it and save it to your HDD.

2] Use these instructions :

http://sagerforums.com/forums/showth...&threadid=2138

3] Or just read on :

Click here to see my website where I have posted my results and the settings I used :

http://www33.brinkster.com/gsferrari/default.htm

Install Instructions for Catalyst 3.1 :-
_____________________________

1] Download the driver software from the ATI website : http://mirror.ati.com/support/drivers/powered.html

2] Save it to your HDD
3] (read point 4 also) Run the program and extract the files to any location on your HDD
4] IMPORTANT :- Quit the install program as soon as this extracting is over and the next window comes up - you can cancel installation here!!

// you do this because if you continue with the setup program supplied by ATI you will get an error

5] Now - uninstall your old drivers :-
Start->Control Panels->Add Remove Programs->ATI Display Drivers->Restart when prompted

6] After restarting - Windows will load with useless drivers and it will all run horribly slow

7] Now :-

Control Panels->Performance and Maintenance->System->Hardware Tab->Device Manager->VGA Controller (yellow color somewhere in the middle)

8] Open the properties of VGA controller
9] Re-Install driver or click Driver tab and then hit the Update Driver button (both work)
10] Now you will come to the driver installation wizard - here click - Install From List or Specific Location

11] Click the radio button for "Dont search I will choose the driver to install"

12] select Radeon 9000 series from this list It will be somewhere in the middle of the list. There will be many Radeon 9000 series listed - select any one.
13] Click Have Disk
14] Point to the location of the extracted files. The ok will not light up until you select the folder 2XP_INF
15] Now it will open this folder and show you 2 .inf files
16] Select any one of those files. I selected the CX_08040 file and clicked OK.

Thats it!!

Now if you dont have ATI control panels already installed - install it now. Otherwise restart the system.

Yahoo!! time to do some bnchmarks lol

Post if you have any problems - or else PM me or Zachquiel - original source of this information...

Im sorry but i did all that. I tried to pm you with the results.

That file didnt end the install wizard. All it did was add a huge list of ATI drivers. When I select the Radeon 9000 series it gives me an Update Driver Warning about how this driver is not recommended because it cant be verified that its compatible.

Oh well.. **** It. Im installing it anyway.

Looks like that worked.

Thanks again for all the help.

yeah...

Sometimes it gives that message
just ignore it.
That should work...do you see the window with a folder on either end and files flying across?

that means the driver is installing just fine...

lemme know if the driver gets updates after you restart...

for future reference you can also download the latest drivers from sites that have modified them for the mobility radeon 9000 like the following:

http://www.s-seven.net/ati/

this makes the install a breeze
