XPS - Fans on when closing lid - AC Only

Does anyone have this issue:

When my XPS is plugged in, and I close the lid, the fans are still running ( If the computer is plugged in ), however, if it's on batteries, and I shut the lid, it hibernates and the fans turn off. Any ideas?

Sounds normal to me. It is just how the power management is set up for the difference between AC & battery power. What part seems unusual to you?

The part that seems unusual is that the fans are still running when the computer is supposed to be suspended. There's no reason for them to be running.

Suspended or hibernated? Suspended is still powering the RAM and the BIOS. The BIOS has temperature tables that control the fans. The fans should shut down after a few minutes once the temps drop below the preset values in the BIOS tables. This is my understanding of how it works, if someone knows differently please feel free to correct me.

In your power settings, what is the lappy set to do when you close the lid while it's plugged in? If it's on Standby when plugged in but Hibernate when on battery, there's your difference.

You could always set it to Hibernate when plugged in as well - that would cover it.

Agreed .. When suspended you can still need cooling because not all the components are powered off .. There is still power to the CPU and RAM ..

When Hibernated all the contents of the RAM are written to the hard drive so the computer can boot from that a lot faster and put you back to where it was before the powerdown .. Then the computer is powered off so it doesn't require any cooling ..
