How To Clean Lcd Screen??

if your going ot be anal about it you want to use things like lens cleaning cloths or materials made for cleaning lcd screens HOWEVER wetting a cotten tshirt yields excellent results while causing nearly no damage to your screen

Here's a great method...ever since I have been using this combination, my screen has been perfect!

1.) Go buy some Isopropyl Alcohol (70% strength) and a bottle of distilled/purified water.
2.) Buy a small spray bottle from a drug store/supermarket.
3.) Mix a 50/50 mixture of the Alcohol and Water.
4.) Shake a bit in the bottle.
5.) Ta-da...you have the perfect cleaning solution for you laptop LCD.

This is basically the same solution that is sold in stores such as Fry's Electronics and CompUSA that goes by the name "IKlear" or "IClean".

It is safe for your screen and does a great job cleaning dust/smudges away.

Adding to the previous posters, don't spray any liquid onto the screen, just on the cloth.

Can also use Fellowes Screen Wipes. www.fellowes.com product number 99702.

They are great for when you are one the road.

Get some high quality microfiber cleaning towels. Microfibre is the recommented cleaning material for LCD's because the fibers are so fine they don't scratch your screen. If you can't find any at your local computer store they sell scotch brand microfiber cloths at your local grocery store (they are blue) in the cleaning isle. If you can't find there either go to a office supply store or call them and ask if they have 3M microfiber cleaning cloths. If you search online for "microfiber lcd" you usually get a bunch of sites that have lcd cleaning kits. Personally, I have been using the large towels from COSTCO (auto cleaing area) you get 12 16"x16" towels for 8 bucks. They are a nice yellow too. I use those with lcd cleaning solvent from my local computer store.

To clean:

Normally for just dust and some small water spots just use the microfiber and it will take it all off in no time. First turn off your computer so you can see the dust. If you see any dirt or debris blow it off or lightly knock them off your panel with the cloth. You don't want to wipe your screen with any hard particles on your cloth or you might end up with some bad scratching. Don't rub in one spot for too long. If you pass over something a couple of times and it doesn't come off just spray some cleaning solution to soften it and then wipe it off.

Note: if you rub in one spot too long you can will see a dull finish in the area when the screen if off. It won't show up when it is on but I don't think it is good to rub it that much. Don't worry it takes a lot of pressure and about 50 passes in one spot to do that. I had to do it once to get a big scratch out of a LCD panel. Therefore, if you have a light scratch in your LCD you may be able to buff it out with a high quality microfibre cloth.

Distilled water + my glasses cleaning cloth and voila, my screen is clean.

well, heres my method

get some compressed air in a can, use that to get rid of the dust etc on the screen.

then use battery water, not tap water, on a cotton cloth. make it a little moist.

then do the karate kid cleaning on the screen. round round, not up and down

Or you can just do it the way Dell says to. Can't go wrong.

Clean Your LCD


CAUTION:
Isopropyl Alcohol is a flammable liquid.

Never spray or pour any liquid directly on the LCD panel.

Do not clean the screen while the system is on.




Shut down the computer.

Disconnect power to the system or monitor.

Wipe the LCD screen gently with a soft dry cloth.
If any marks remain, moisten the cloth with LCD cleaner, and then gently stroke the cloth across the display in one direction, moving from the top of the display to the bottom.

NOTICE: Do not use any of the following chemicals or any solutions that contain them: Acetone, ethyl alcohol, toluene, ethyl acid, ammonia, or methyl chloride. If you have a different chemical or solution and are not sure whether it is suitable, do not use it. Using any of the chemicals in the previous list may cause permanent damage to the LCD screen. Some commercial window cleaners contain ammonia and are therefore unacceptable.




Be sure the LCD screen is dry before closing it or using the computer.

There are many cleaning solutions sold specifically as LCD cleaners. You can use these to clean LCD screens on Dell notebooks. Alternately, you may use a 50/50 isopropyl alcohol and water mixture. Microfiber cloths such as those used to clean eyeglasses are excellent for use with LCDs.

LCD Maintenance

Do not place anything heavy on your notebook.

When using a carrying case or backpack, ensure that you are not over-stuffing the carrying case and applying extra pressure to the notebook case and LCD back.

Do not scratch, twist or hit the surface of the LCD screen.

no dust doesnt harm,

I get the dust off with the missus swiffer antistatic dusty thingy

I use the klearscreen stuff to get the greasy paw prints off (toddler at home, and dozy mates too)

I have found that the grease resists just aqua, hence the cleaner

by the way toddler ment that completecare was a necessity, I'm just waiting for the day toast is made in my dvd drive

I've heard stories about those KFC wipes... Buggered if I'm going to be the first to try it though!

don't those wetnap kind of wipes contain some soapy stuff in them? i dont think u want any kind of soap on ur lcd...
