i'll just make this a work in progress, and keep updating it as i go!
here's what i wrote so far...

i really want to write a long one soon..but just cant get everything worked out in my head atm....

ummm..screen is beautiful..i love it..the glossy is better than i was thinking it was going to be.....games are great....i have to figure out how to configure the resolutions in games for widescreen rather than stretching tho....

this plays halo much better than my 5660....even better than my friends 5670.... video card is incredible...the fans arent that bad if you are playing a game, you barely hear them during gameplay..i wouldnt use this computer as a college student tho...too big, and too loud for a classroom setting...

sound is great, as long as you turn on the the 6.1 sound, with the subwoofer etc.....otherwise, it's just average laptop sound....

here's my main complaint..not the sound, not the weight..but the durability of the lid....it seems much more weak than most other laptops..i feel like i can hold it from each end and break it if i really tried....not that i'm going to do that! but it just is a little scary cause it seems weak...

keyboard is nice...would be nicer if there was a slight slant.....that's ok tho....

gets a little hot...definitely want to have those fans going during a game, especially at high res.....

all in all, i'm very happy with the purchase...

3.0 ghz, northwood
1gig memory
60 gig, 5400 rpm....i'll shoot for a 7200 soon...

also, just ran the burn in test..it ran and finished in 15 minutes..it passed everything, 0 errors...anyone have any experience with this? should i run it over and over?

also uner mobility meter....processor is currently at 40C, been running games ona nd off for about 5 hours....HDD is at 50C, fans were on high during the gaming...turned them off when not gaming...

here's my opinion on the sound...

heya everyone...i have a bigger review on the way..just need the time for a long review!

but here's an issue that is bothering me....i see a lot of reviews mixed..some say it's the best sound...some say it's not that impressive....

let me tell you..i ALMOST was thinking the same thing....when i first got my 8790....and then i realized i had to go into the control panel, under the sound options, and enable 6.1 sound..(i have the subwoofer)...let me tell you..i'm blown away, as is every single person who has heard this thing either playing games, music, or movies....

just keep in mind you have to go in and enable the 6.1, or the 4 speaker sound, or whatever...just make sure you look into your sound settings!!
it kills me every time i see someone write the sound is not impressive...if only you can hear mine

how to configure sound with subwoofer in 8790

let make it right .. correct if i missed anything ..

at AC97 Audio Configuration:

- equalizer: select [powerful]
- speaker configuration: select [6-channel mode for 5.1 speaker output]
- speaker test: select [swap center/subwoofer output]
- sound effect: select [auditorium] or whatever you feel right for your taste - do this after the above steps so that you could select the right sound for you
