My guess would be Arima.

Nice find, I hope this one makes it over the the US. I guess no one's gonna put a 128MB 9700 in a light machine.

I noticed they also show a UXGA screen option, which is nice. I hope that's a sign it might have a better screen than some of the other P-M/9600/9700 machines.

It looks like the older Arima M620 was available in Europe. I guess it didn't make it to the US. Here's a discussion and large pics on a French forum:

CG Avance M620 Suisse M10 64 !

A mention of the M620 on AnandTech

Most likely will be branded by Walmart for the US
post #9 of 15
Wow. Walmart is slowly but surely taking over the world if this is true. Hehe. The MS of the retail world indeed...

Walmart also just began carrying the ATi All in Wonder series of the 9200, 9600, and the 9600 XT.

Though not impossible, it's not especially likely that this is model will be sold at Walmart. This news is a bit dated (last year) and Arima makes a variety of different models and has contracts with a number of different companies. In the past, I believe Arima has made notebooks for HP and emachines, among others.

Anyway, this model is relatively high-spec and Walmart's target is mid to low-spec mainstream (integrated graphics/XGA screen).

Wal-Mart Expected to Sell Own-Branded Notebooks in 2004

Quote:
Possible configurations for the new Wal-Mart notebook will likely utilize either an Athlon XP or Intel Celeron processor. In addition to the Celeron and the Athlon, ARS believes that a P4 configuration may also be possible.

Detailed specifications of the Wal-Mart branded notebooks are not known, however, Arima manufactures systems using both Intel and AMD processors. ARS believes Wal-Mart will enter the market with a 15” system at a sub-$800 price point.
A few more links from last year:

Wal-Mart to sell branded laptops?
WalMart to sell notebooks with Dell thwacking pilot
Wal-Mart to write own name on notebooks

If you look at Walmart's current generic brands "Microtel" and "Northgate", those lines include a VIA C3 machine, a P4 and a few Centrino (integrated graphics/XGA) machines. I don't know if either of these are Walmart's own brand or not, but they give you an idea of the type of machine they're aiming for.

Microtel
Northgate

The fact that the previous M620 didn't make it to the US isn't encouraging, but I hope some of the small resellers pick it up, if not a company like Gateway/emachines.

From the article:

Since Wal-Mart sells products to the value-oriented buyer, it really comes as no shock that the All-in-Wonder 9200 is the only card of the line that they have plans to shelf currently.

This 5lb 15 in. screen notebook is impressive... in fact, I just remembered that Hazel girl was looking for something similar, I think ill go find that thread of hers.

Doh --> Found it, but she was looking for a 17 inch notebook, not a 15 inch.
hmmm, even 15 inches isn't enough now...

If this notebook is priced cheap (as in less expensive than it's competitors), I can forget about the nc8000 with a quickness. This is a well equipped unit with all the things you can want at a *hopefully* good price.

Great Find!!!!!!!!
