So anyway, Fn+F6 is the typical CRT/LCD switching hotkey and I'd never tried it because I assumed you had to have a CRT connected. But it does work - thanks!

Function & Function + Fkey assignments are differnet between the 8890 and the 8790. Question, at hand, was for the 8790.
Highly don't recomment running the 8790 with the unit working aways and the Lid Shut. If you want to know why, just pick ten or twelve points on the keyboard and measure the temperaure. The shut the lid and wait five minutes and remeasure the same points as initially measured. Do this for 5, 10, 15, 30, 45 minutes intervals - first with the unit running a "minimum load" and then (if you have the guts) when the unit is using maximum resources.
