Armus says: Wow... I dont know what to say. Sounds like you could take your lappy to hell and back and itd be alright. Cool case.
I've been there ... just didn't have a Dell at the time! BTW, it's a small town in Norway!

Great Case, I felt I waited too long to way in on this one.

No offence to Rob or any other Aussies, but the statement about New South Wales being 10% larger than Texas got me curious. NSW pop. is around 6.2 million (projected 2004), is that accurate? If so, that means Texas has nearly 4 times as many people(2004 projected 23 million-ish). And TX is more than 3 million people more populous than the entire nation of Australia.

Why am always compelled to find these things out?

And, Yes, I do live in Tejas.

Does look like a military storage case..

It would just defeat the purpose of me buying a lightweight notebook..

lmao! how much would the shipping on one of these monsters cost within the states, it looks like it weighs a ton! does it rob? and have you ever been pulled aside for carrying it in a public place?
Okle, The shipping within the US is pretty cheap, shipping it to Australia cost around $60US, but that still works out less than buying it local.

I haven't been pulled aside in a public place, as I only use that case while at work, and I am usually the one doing the pulling aside of suspicious people....

how did you get the inside foam to fit your 9100? do u just give them the dimensions (or inspirons ) of what you need and they custom cut it or was it a DIY job?
The foam in the pelican cases is called "Pick and Pluck" it comes in small cubes and you just remove sections of it to fit your equipment, totally customisable for any size laptop.

Here is a small one I use with a camera...

Wow, w/ that case it will be 30 lbs for the 9100.. Too heavy.

But I am not a girl, I don't mind carrying heavy items... Seriously though, the only place I carry it in that case is about 5 meters from the car to the helicopter and back. I have a Targus case for every day use.

Panzerfuher, Yes population wise Texas has more people, your figures are correct, What I was referring to is the physical size of the land area, NSW has about 10% more land area than Texas, (and NSW is one of Australia's smallest states).

We have 4 helicopters to cover that entire area, in the state of Texas there are over 70 law enforcement helicopters. The US has Police, Sheriffs, in small localised areas, NSW has one Police Force covering the entire land area. My point was simply that we have a large area to cover, often a job in the remote areas of the state requires a days travel, overnighting and a days travel back. (thats when I use the pelican case)

Fair comment, but I didn't buy the 9100 as a lightweight notebook, I have the I5000 for that.

Here it is with the Toughbooks we are trialling at work.

And alongside my 9100

I also have a pelican case for the 8200...

I think you can pick them up new on ebay for under $100 US. Retail for this model is $140 US. Unfortunately it cost me quite a bit more here in Australia, $421 Australian, I almost had one shipped from the US, but it would have cost me about $100 US in shipping costs, so the savings were not worth the local warranty.

You can buy them from Gowings

Also there is an australian distributor of "Stormcases" www.stormcase.com you can buy them from www.rescuestuffdirect.com Tell him, "Rob" sent you.....

I like Pelican cases...I can personally attest to the fact that the contents survive drops of 10-15 feet, and they don't need O2 while descending from 20,000 + feet

Perhaps, but its the truth. Thats what we've become.
I just watched a movie called "The Siege" last night. Funny how it came out in 1998 and was a pretty strong political point, but failed to make any impression on the numbskulls we have in charge here, and we practically did the same thing with rounding up middle-easterners, etc.

Sorry didnt mean to hi-jack this thread. No pun intended.

Bloody Hell, this guy's packing WOMD's!!!

What does the total package weigh, laptop and accessories included?

About 12 Kilograms, (25 lbs) Not that heavy, I don't walk great distances with it in this case, just from home to the car, then car to the work, and work to a helicopter, then at destination, helicopter to waiting taxi, then taxi to motel. Overall, less than 100 meters of actually walking/carrying distance. So weight isn't really an issue, more important to keep the lappy safe enroute....

This is why I need the Pelican Case for the precious.....

My Precious... My Beloved, I wants it, I needs it, My precious, my 9100....

I too can attest to the strength of Pelican cases. I've used one to carry my sextant (Tamiya Spica, which costs more than most laptops by the way) around the world for nearly 10yrs now. Every Continent except Antarctica. Great cases and worth every penny. I think a Pelican case large enough to hold my i9200 would be too big for carry-on though. Anyone have experience with an i9200 and a Pelican case?
