Opinions on Latest Rev M10 and Toshiba WUXGA Screen

Replaced my M10 128MB REV01 for a REV04 and I no longer have any temperature problems in fact a modest 348 core and 288 Memory clock runs absolutely fine.

Now Id like to put in my 2 cents comparing the 9100 and 8600. From My point of view the 9100 is indeed a sturdier machine all around this includes the keyboard and chasis.
Screwing all that what interested me the most when comparing performace comapred to my reliable and trusty 8600b is the Screen. I Have first hand expreience comparing Sharp and Samsung And its easy to tell the Sharp is brighter and better all around than the samsung screen. Toshiba Vs Samsung is where its interesting since immedietly I can see that the Toshiba is a very Vivid screen BUT the viewing angles and response time is a smidge weaker compared to the samsung screen which I feel is a better trade off since I enjoy the response time and viewing angles of the samsung despite the pretty clarity the toshiba offers. I would like to point out that I now know what light leakage looks like and this case its very small and wouldnt bother many people.

UPDATE

Radeon 9600 128MB M10 F3515 RevA01
Max Temp Threshold 99 Degrees C
Max Core 346 Max Mem 277

Radeon 9600 128MB M10 F3515 RevA04
Max Temp Threshold 108 Degrees C (so far for 4 hours)
Max Core 360 Max Mem 300

an interesting note I cannot underclock the new M10 below 130 Memory or it will cause horrible display issues so the lowest setting in powerplay causing terrible problems

Interesting. Looks like its going great guns in overclocking though, that's pretty decent so far... how much improvement are you seeing in games with that?

dell-machina how do you change the revision of radeon 9600 its a hardware update or a software update, and how do you see what is your current rev of the radeon 9600?

Thanks

hardware revision A04 I just calle ddell told them my fan on the video wasnt working (half truth) so they sent me a new one which looks identical except the REVA04 sticker although its funny but the box said F3515 Radeon 128MB M11 GRPH but I was too optimistic about that.

Peformance is definetly noticible compared to the old card. I suspected performance problems on the old one due to choppiness in gameplay and 3drendering so i had it replaced and the choppiness is gone but everything is definetly smoother +5 - 10 fps across the board
post #11 of 45
That's probably heat related performance gain. If your old one was regularly >100C then it would slow down, so that's good to know. Mine is also a revision 4 card because its a relatively new lappy, I had a look when replacing the first card. I haven't overclocked it as yet and I rarely get >85C in games so its all good

@DELL-Machina:

How did you do that. I also have a noisy fan and will get it replaced today but how did you convince them to replace the whole card?
I'd also really like to have the cooler rev4 version

Thanks

Kind of funny guys.
Today I should get my Fan replaced and guess what they send the CPU fan.
Well no harm done and the tech called in and said that I want the GPU fan replaced and seems that is not possible, so now I also get a new card, hopefully revision 4.

BTW my card is always at around 55-60 degress Celsicus and when gaming goes up easily around 90 or more

This is good to hear, I'll assume I also have the new revision since I got mine after you. This thread had me gathering my dissection tools from the shop for a little while.

You should have the AO4, yes.

Yes we are talking Celcius. During normal use I would freak at 100C too, but thats not the case. During normal office and internet use mine stays cool between 40C-48C. However during games it is not uncommon for some of the earlier revisions to breach 100C, I have seen this (If you are monitoring using fanGUI you would have to look at the history, upon quitting the game the card can rapidly fall 20C in temp.

My card however is the AO4 and I have not seen it brach 90C in games yet (I think the highest I've gotten is 85C). But yeah, they do get hot.

To actually check if you have A04 revision you will have to openit up and have a look at the sticker on the card. This sticker states the revision of the hardware among other things (you will find a similar sticker on just about every piece of hardware Dell ships... have a look on your AC adapter for example)
