8890 crashing?

Just got my computer back from RMA to Sager. Now i am getting an interesting (annoying) crash from it. I don't know if it is WMP, the dvd drive, or the internet, but it has happened three times now, and i've narrowed it down to WMP, maybe.

I just resets itself, while i am not doing anything extrenuating to it. Like watching a movie in WMP, with nothing else going, not even internet. Then it acts like it is idle, screen off. The fan still works, and it tries to access the dvd drive. No buttons work, it is just on this strange idle. cold boot proves to be the only thing that works.

I'm probably going to just reformat, see if that helps. Do you think it could be the hard drive, or maybe the memory?

an update on whats going on. ive performed a number of tests to see what might be the culprit. All have proved negative results (meaning the crash persists).

1. removing one stick of memory at a time
2. removing the cd-dvd drive completely
3. running on battery with/without downclock enabled.
4. running on power brick with/without downclock enabled.
5. while playing games
6. while the computer is doing nothing (load windows and wait)
7. i cleaned heatsink/fans and checked for thermal pad (which is there)
8. Reinstalling windows (it even crashed while installing the first time)

it is not a case of overheating, as i have been monitering my temps with mobilemeter and they remain stable. It could be the BIOS conflicting with the new motherboard recently installed. Is it normal for the fans to kick in exactly when the computer is turned on? (It is the case when i have windows running with fans on and then shut down, reboot, the fans run immediately. I just don't remember this from before.)

This is a real big ****, if you ask me. :grr:

Yes, mine does that with the fans, it quiets down after about 20 seconds or so.
Part of it's POST I think.

I don't suppose you have a spare CPU that would fit this system? Even a slower one would suffice to see if you got a bad CPU or something.

That's got to be annoying man, perhaps another call is in order?

i had a new motherboard installed, and they replaced my AS with a new thermal pad.

desafortunadamente, i have no spare CPU. and now, i just got off the phone, and i have to RMA again. supposedly they made a mistake with the motherboard installation. That sucks

At least you know what it is now and it can get fixed. Incredibly unlucky

r u supposed to pay for shipping this secodn time? i don't think you should be responsible for it since they made a mistake during the original RMA

well if thats the case, i would like to know the policy.

i'm just suggesting it because you already paid to send it to have it fixed, and they didn't fix it. therefore you should not have to pay a second time to send it.

i don't think there is any formal policy but it would take some arguing to be compensated for the shipping.

KIDVI - your point is valid. I would think that a call/e-mail to the reseller for support would be warranted.
