m6805 Airplane Power Adapter

Hey All,

I need to buy an airplane power adapter to work with US Airways in the next couple of days. Can anyone recommend one that will work. Nobody says if they will work with eMachines. Best Buy has this Targus adapter at http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....5&type=product

Has anyone seen this as working? Or can you recommend another?

Sorry to break the bad news to you; but after doing quite a bit of on-line research 5 months ago, I've found that you won't be able to use an airline power adapter for your m6805.

The m6805 needs 90 watts of power, but the airline seat power outlets only supply either 70 or 78 watts max (I've forgotten which value). I wish that I could tell you otherwise. This is one of the inconviences that keeps my m6805 from being the perfect notebook (there's only about 6 others). However, it (and/or the m6809) is still the best bang for the buck out there that can play all the latest games!

Hey fellow forum member, correct me if the situation has changed and I'm now wrong!

i didn't know there was a plug to power a notebook on a plane? Is this only in the us or business class?

a bunch of people with the m6805 have been using these. it's a little on the expensive side, about $100. but it works, so hey.

Here are my results

Hey All,

I contacted the company that makes the ICE 90, it would work, if they had the airplane adapter plug out. It isn't being released for a few weeks. They also recommended their Juice product, but that doesn't have the wattage yet. I did eventually go the Power Inverter route. Best Buy has a really small one that was around $50.00 and weighs only a few ounces. Here is the kicker:

It works great in my car and the laptop works great. The Invertor works great in the Plane. AS SOON AS YOU TURN ON THE M6805 IT BLOWS THE CIRCUIT ON THE AIRPLANE. TALK ABOUT RED-IN-THE-FACE. For note, it was a US Airways Airbus type plane.

Thats right 72Watt output can't handle 90Watt Laptops. So I did the next best thing. Since it was so cramped. Coach seats here folks, Business/First class was a $1000 more. I slept during the flight. Crazy I know, but hey, it worked.

ALSO OF NOTE: I read somewhere that the company that makes those SUPER large batteries that last between 10-15 hours will have a 90Watt version soon. However, that company does not support eMachines Laptops.

Any new developments on this issue? Someone in another thread said you could work around the power draw issue by dimming the screen and underclocking the CPU with clockgen? Anyone know how far to underclock to drop consumption by 20W? I'm flying to China with a wife and a five-year-old in two weeks, and I need something more than my spare emachine battery or it will be a looong flight without movies and games on demand!

I just flew back to the east coast last week via United, and none of the 4 planes i was on had power connections, they were good size planes too. They said it was only in Business class/first class. So i'm still kinnda curious as well since i had my inverter and never got to see if it worked...

Well, if you want to try it, try it on your neighbors seat . That way you can blame him...If your desperate enough, you could just use the plane to charge also, or have it act like its on battery while running...

well i could be wrong but, just because the plane only generates what 72w...wont that mean it'll just take longer to charge? cause the voltage is the same, just lower amps...so u should be able to use standard airplane power adapter, even tho it aint rated for 90w...or so I thought...hmmm

so, it is ok to use the inverter to charge the batteries right? just don't turn on the laptop i guess?

I think 90 watt's is the max power usage (charging/running your computer at max speed/full screen brightness....) What if you take out the battery so it doesn't have to charge the battery and lower your brightness? The battery is about 65Watt hr and it lasts over 2 hours (at 800Mhz on my 6809).

You can use the M6805

on the airplane. I've done it SEVERAL times. Get a Targus power adapter that works on the plane, and use tip #44.

I just put the machine in the Max Battery or Portable/Desktop so it would run in the lower power state, and had 0 problems.

In fact, I bought one of the Targus 120W power adapters that can be used from A/C and D/C power (model 300), and then you don't have to lug around 2 power adapters.

I to am intrigued by a plug in the airplane. I frequently fly cross Atlantic, though have gone to Japan a few times as well, and am in england as I type this message. I have flown every company imaginable (though primarily Delta for the frequent flyer miles, to keep them all on the same company, but fly British Airways a lot because there's places in Europe (i.e. Kosovo) that it flies and Delta doesnt).

That said, I have never seen a power plug in a coach seat on an aircraft. It might just be they're not on Delta's trans-atlantic flights (they usually fly smaller aircraft for the Atlanta-London flights), and it's been a while since I've flown US. Anyone else know? Are these plugs only on the larger planes, or just US Air?

I usually fly United Airlines and they only have the plug for their Businesss and First Class passengers only. I myself have never seen them on coach before either.

They have power ports in select rows in coach. Their airplane maps on their website show which rows..

Continental also has power outlets on certain coach seats. You have to request one of those seats though.

battery addon or extra backup

valance n charge + expansio = 10 (5 hours each pack) with tips(sold seperate)
spendy, but hey even a 9 hour flight and your choice of the flight movie or game...... best buy has them too...

I don't think I would want to juggle my widescreen laptop in those cramped seats, but I'm a big guy.
