ati 9700 and Maya 6.0

ok boys, I need ur help and possible solutions...

I just recived my sager 8790 3.0G 1gig ram with the ati mobility 9700 256MB card and everything runs sweet, photoshop, itunes, all my 2D apps except maya 6.0,

when in a 4 pane view one pane jumps to black. it seems to me that its a refresh problem because when I resize the pane its fixes itself but then again when I am working it jumps to either half black pane or full black (JUST ONE PANE AT RANDOM AND ONLY IN 4 PANE MODE)

I have been to sagers update page to d/l the latest ati driver (hasnt helped any) I was reading that some people are using different drivers, I was wondering if it would be a good idea to try them only I dont know where to find similar drivers for this card since ati referes you to the manufactures site.

what solutions can you think of??

thanks

You might want to try Omega's driver. www.omegacorner.com. Hopefully this helps

Use these drivers. I use XSI which is even more picky about it's graphics card. xsi will not run an Ati Gamer card reliably without a driver mod. I expect that Maya is the same. These drivers mod 9600 and 9700 cards to firegl cards. You must manualy install them.

After a complete uninstall of ATI drivers and control panel (including
history and registry cleaning), these drivers succesfully turned my
mobility radeon 9700 into a mobility firegl. XSI diagnostics
identifies the open GL renderer as a mobility FireGL
You can find informations about this driver here:

wow, sounds exciting I will give it a try but can u please tell me how to delete the history and registry??

p.s., the omega driver worked alot better but still gave me some black from time to time, but about 80%less then before.

wow it worked and now my card is a mobility free firegl t2 (0x4e54)

this was the second option when presented with a list from the driver install, I wasnt sure which to select so i just went down the list till i found one that worked... does anyone know if this is the best selection or would they all pretty much have the same effect??

thanks so much for the help to all who posted here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maya OpenGL OK, but RENDERING?????

Hi everyone,

I have been wracking my brain trying to figure out why Maya works so well in the work environment, but gives me nothing but problems in the rendering department.

My scenes move with the speed and quality i need. My "Playblasts" or viewport movies render just fine(again, that's an OpenGL thing). But batch rendering has been nothing but a hassle for me.

When i loaded maya 5, i could batch render, but doing a test render in a window froze the program, and i'd have to restart maya. NOW it's the opposite. Rendering a test in the window works just fine, but batching just hangs.

It's obviously not the graphics card, because it's running smooth, gives me great real-time previews for the simulations... it's the batch...

ant0n1o,

Have you had to do any specific options to insure a sturdy render?

Does anyone have this problem?

All my other programs work fine. Doom 3 is Eye candy. Photoshop, video editing and output through the firewire, etc.

I'm going to try an external server render program tonight. If I'm outside Maya, maybe I can find a way around this problem.

If maya gives these problems does 3d studio max work better? I have experience with that.
