Purchasing

Hi, I'm looking to purchase an Area 51-m and had a few questions. I know a friend who has the 16.1 inch screen and the laptop seems very large. Are the ones with the 15.4inch screens any smaller? From pictures it doesn't seem like it's any wider than the 16.1inch which seems quite odd. Also I'm looking to spend around $2500. What's the best config I can get for that money? Basically I need to know what components can be "sacrificed". Thanks.

The chasis is the exact same on either. They just fill the extra real estate with the two extra speakers. Search for Awacs site for pictures to see the difference.

Really, you just need to go build it to the specs that you need. I'd reccomend a gig of ram (2 stick) and the 3.0 ghz, processor will be fine.

Yeah, Daegras is right, but be sure to get the extended warranty... TRUST ME... you might even be well off with just 512 ram... ok, i will configure a system for you and I will post in a sec!

drop the Warranty: 2-Year down to 1 yr and boost up the ram

I think the warranty is pretty important...my opinion... you never know what could go wrong... and after spending this much money on a machine, your better off being covered.
yes thats true but most warranties go un used and a waist of extra money where you will get more use out of the ram insted of the warranty JMO
post #11 of 32
true... i agree with you on that... its like insurance for your car though, you just never know... I had a good buddy of mine that didn't buy extended warranty for his rig and wouldn't you know it, 2 months after the warranty expired, his Motherboard fried... its cost him $900 to get it fixed... when the extended warranty would have cost him like $130 or so... (it was a Sony)

Do you think the prices of components will drop during the summer?oh and btw the laptop I get will replace my Falcon Northwest Fragbox. I go to college and it was too much of a hassle having a desktop system.

I got the one year warrenty...i hanvn't had any serious problems but i wish i had gotten at least the 2 year so i would feel more comforatable overclocking and stuff...its really not that expensive when your paying this much for a machine

Isn't the Sony warranty like 60 days or something really short? Have had two Vaio's in the past and thankfully no problems. Their tech support is also horrible.
Sony is 1 year, then a few months before your warranty expires, they send you a "final answer" card to see if you want to get the extended warranty...
not to mention that Sony is an overpriced Toshiba... Toshiba makes the Vaios... found that out after buying my Sony.... I am just a name brand biatch...
