Mitac 8050 ... aka hypersonic cx6 for cheap - Page 3

as long as the battery life is past 4hrs, then Im sold.

Those 2 links are reviews of the winbook w160. It's not the same as the Mitac 8050. I think the new winbook (w360) is the actualy mitac 8050.

http://reviews.cnet.com/WinBook_W360...-30880951.html

but once again i'm confused with Cnet's review. They say that serious users may want to get the more speedy HP 6000.
Why would they say this if they both scored the same (207) on sysmark. And we all know that HP's ATI 9600 card is so slowww ... I just don't get them.

I was only giving info to Aikeo regarding a laptop that looks closer to the powerbook. And I said the mitac 8060B looks more like the powerbook than the 8050. So If he wanted a laptop that looks the closest to powerbook, that he should think about getting the 8060B series instead of 8050. That was the only reason for me posting reviews on winbok w160

According to several forum members, the slowness is just on the nc6000, not the nc8000/nw8000 ???

OK, two things:
1.) I am now TOTALLY confused on which Mitac is which, especially when you include all of the "aka" models. Could someone post a "who's who" of Mitacs, including most of the known "aka's" just to sort it out???
2.) Are the cases of these Mitac's soft plastic, or a more rugged compound???
Thanks,

Mitac 8050 aka hypersonic cx6, voodoo M:370, winbook w360. The other Mitac 8060B (which is all silver w/ white keyboard, and 15.2" widescreen), i've only seen branded as the winbook w160. I really like that 8060B, but can't find the barebones of it anywhere. So I settled with the 8050. The mitac casing's look metal to me. Not sure if they are plastic or not??
Yeah it is plastic

I don't tink the 8060 is sold anymore.. It's last years model. But you never know, some vendors might still carry it. I hear the keyboard was really bad on it as well.
Boo. Oh well as long as it looks metal from 5 ft. away. hahah

Yeah if u want aluminum u'll have to wait for the new Arima. That thing is beautiful and fully loaded with UXGA option for under 5 pounds.. But i just can't wait that long haha.
what kind of video card will the arima support?
I guess we will have to wait for a review to know if the 8050 has the same quality of keyboard?? Anybody received one yet??

Barebones probably means without the CPU, HD, RAM, or wireless card.

If you get a "barebones" that includes DVD/CD-RW drive, are the (4) components below all that you need to complete the notebook? If so, are any instructions usually included, or is it just assumed that you will know what to do??

Yes, those are the only components that need to be installed inside the barebone besides the operation system that you load onto the HDD. Although you will need to buy a thermal paste to place upon the cpu to prevent it from frying. I don't believe that barebones come with instructions. Honestly, installing the ram and HDD are fairly easy and the cpu is fairly easy too. Besides, if you have any questions during the process, you could have them answered here on the forum.

question...

Hi, If i buy the Mitac 8050 barebone and want to upgrade my specs myself, does anyone know where i can get parts such as Dothan 1.7 cpu, 1GB Ram, and 60GB HD 5400RPM at a decent price.

Also, will it be hard to install the parts if i do it buy myself and be cheaper than what RJ Tech offers?

Thanks in advanced!

you can find any component you need for a lappy at pricewatch.com
I'd reccomend ordering the 60GB 5400 and 1GB ram from newegg.com which is very reliable yet very cheap.
To find the dothan processor, search at www.froogle.google.com type in 1.7 Pentium M (mostly you will see banias, but a few vendors will carry the dothan.)
It will be cheaper building it yourself but you'll only save around $100 tops.
