Does the 202X have the same arcade buttons as 200X ? Don't they bother when having your arms on the notebook? I am just about to buy a 2012WLCi because there are no arcade buttons which leave "imprints" on my forearms...

202X have better features (128MB VRAM, bigger hd, higher cpu clock, subwoofer, arcade modus without XP...) but I am afraid the arcade buttons will bother me when writing with both hands.

And... can you format the harddisk with ntfs? Was not possible with older aspire 20XX...

How big is the linux partition?

thanx

Hey.
1. Make sure if you're going for the 2012 you get the WLMI and not the WLCI...it's usually 100 bucks more but you get a dvd burner, a 9700 pro and 20 extra gigs. That's quite a bit more for the buck .
2. Yes, you can format to ntfs.

Based on what I've read, the Arcade software is actually loaded from Linux when you press the arcade button from a switched-off state, and it's on a separate partition? Not sure what the size is though.

Well I guess I'll find out in a few days...
I just ordered mine from Newegg along with a Sandisk mini-cruzer 512MB USB drive and a Targus TSB315 blue notebook bookpack from Amazon. (soon to be college student)

I sure will! Targus' website says that the TSB315 is compatible with the Acer Aspire 2000 notebooks, but we all know how trustworty things like that are. *haha*

I'll put up a few pics whenever it comes in.

Unfortunately it was delayed by a day or so (not that it would matter due to the weekend)---the "daytime" phone listed with Newegg has always been my mom's office, and we've always used one particular credit card. For some reason or another, it didn't like that phone number.....I called them today and they fixed it. Oh well---I don't really mind. It's nice to know that they do actually verify things before they ship. Been using Newegg for 2 years now and never had a problem!!

Edit: Another shameless plug---Bank of America called around 45 minutes after I ordered and wanted to verify that we actually ordered that. Once again it's nice to know that people do that.

If you guys want I'll throw up some pics of the lappy and bookbag whenever they all come in, and possibly write up a few thoughts about it after I use it for a while. Do note, however, that I usually do things by the book. It says in the manual to completely cycle the battery 3 times before you really work with it.....and that's what I'm going to do. I don't play a lot of games on computers...however, I should be able to give you a fairly good report on how well it plays in the real world with surfing the net, Word, Excel, movies, etc.

i would like to order this laptop from newegg.com, but im worried because of their return policy. what happens if i dont like the computer or it doesnt work for me? am i stuck with it? is there a better place to buy it from? thanks very much.

My other fear of getting a newegg laptop is dead pixels. If you have any, you have to immediately go to the manufacturer, and ACER's requirements for dead pixels, when I asked them was "1 in center, 3 in a row or 5 total."

Yeah and THAT is a sucky dead pixel policy. One is bad enough but five!! Anyone know resellers that let you return the machine if you don't like it?

Not an ACER Aspire 2025.

so no one knows a good place to buy one
Nope. pctorque does not carry it, and I don't know if they accept returns either.
Buying an ACER is not like buying a Dell, HP, IBM, etc.
You can't try it out for a few weeks, and then send it back for a full refund.
Once you get it, it is yours, which is a big negative if you are not sure it is what you want.

www.pcconnection.com

30 day full refund return policy, and they threw in free 2 day shipping. Its about $150 more than newegg though, but i just couldn't live with the no refund OR exchange policy that newegg had.

I think the arcade software is actually part of the BIOS and not on the HDD.

they dont have the acer 2025

Even if they had the 2025, or any notebook I wanted, I wouldn't trust their return policy, unless I had an email from a salesperson on file, because their return policy states "All non-defective returns authorized by PC Connection are subject to a 15% restocking fee and must be completed within 30 days of invoice." That doesn't sound like a "30 day full refund return policy". I would DEFINATELY ask for it in writing before I accepted delivery of the notebook.

I would like to get an update on Acer 2025 owner after using your acer for a while now...
I am deciding between the acer 2025 and the mitac 8050..both are similiar in alot of area..the mitac is configurable and a little cheaper than the acer...but for some reason i am leaning toward the acer...

Anyways, can you guys update on heat issues, battery life, and the sturdiness of the laptop?

thanks for you help..and i will probably order through pcharmony or pcnation..any1 have previous experiences with these guys?

You cannot go wrong wih the Aspire 2025. I did a really extensive research on this laptop and many others because i was looking for one myself. I ended up getting (still waiting for it) an Asus M6Bn simply because the Acer was out of my price range. I have never read about any heat issues for the Acer and the laptop is very solidly built - the casing is aluminum which strengthens the body without increasing the weight compared to plastic. The screen of the Acer is one of the best in the business. The only drawback that I can think of is the realitevely slow 4200rpm of the 80GB but with more RAM that shouldn't be an issue. Of course you can always upgrade to a faster HD. The battery life is ~4hrs which is very respectable, it is a Dothan after all.
I can only recommend you this laptop. The Mitac would be a good choice too but it doesn't compare to the Acer.
