Just got my 8790. I have been on the forums for a long time but posted few times.

During boot up she spends a lot of time deteching.. is there a fix for this and does anyone know what is trying to do? Boot up takes longer then my 1 gig dell!

I have seen a lot of posts on the wireless problems.. (I have used the search tool) Mine does not work with WEP on is there somewhere I can comfirm its at 64bit? I am thinking my links router is to old... I have updated all the firm and drivers.

Thanks guys..

I have one white pix which I guess is ok...

You will need to provide the configuration. I.E., Does it have Raid, etc... Without that info it will be hard to provide any opinion or help.

I've got the same config and I thought it was off, but it was actually on. I thought it was pretty odd that it'd come installed w/ RAID on w/ only 1 HD, but that's the way it was. I've held off adding my 80gig HD in the secondary bay because of the RAID issue (too lazy to reformat right now).

got wep working.. one place it would only take the key word and with that it fails and I found where I could but in the hex code and i am in...

Still working with this boot up thing.. dont understand why she wont just boot off the hard drive instead going into the detecting all boot options.. I have messed with boot choice with no luck.. Can someone at least comfirm that there computer stalls for 5-6 seconds detecting?

mine also stall for about 5 sec detecting like you mention. I also have exactly the same config as you. It doesn't bother me much so I had just forgotten about it.

At least I am not alone thanks for the input... seems like a bios update would fix this..

I emailed Sager's tech support for this issue and here's the reply I got.
That’s because this unit came with an additional Promise ATA/RAID controller, system will need to scan thru it during boot up, this is quite normal.

"quite normal" my azz if you ask me... one of the pro's of getting a new computer is faster boot and my one gig smokes this 3.4 gig My dell laptop with 4 year old parts is faster then this one?? I do not see why they dont have a bios with the option to turn this off??? At this point I am thinking of a return.. This issue should be a none issue with a bios upgrade!

I've had a Promise controller in at least one machine for 4 year now. That boot delay is just par for the course, hardly worth returning the unit.

Still, Promise could let the user select the pause time. I suppose they figure that they'd get a lot of calls to tech support if users were making the delay extremely short and were then unable to access the Promise BIOS.

40 Seconds from cold start (Power On) to Completed Windows Boot. This is with Raid enabled. I didn't notice the 5-6 second detection wait (a couple of seconds in coule of places but not a 5-6 second single wait anywhere).

Mvette, if your major criteria is "how fast it gets out of the gate" and not the "maximum speed", then you should return the machine for one that does not have RAID capability. This may also result in limiting your search for a replacement configuration to inferior machines in one or more aspects. The 5690 might be a good fit.

I'd agree with G, if you really hate the boot up time that much, ever thought of using hibernation instead?

The machine would wake up in about 20 seconds, but it seems that maybe 20 seconds is abit too long to wait for...

Sorry to tell you bud, but the delay is for the raid and there is nothing you can do about it. Ive been building computers for 5 years now and any motherboard that supports raid is by default going to check the drives and you cannot turn it off.

Maybe you see this as a downside but try and thing on a larger scale. This is a good thing because you will be able to config raid if you want and have extra security or speed.

If you dont like it your going to have to return it and it seems like it would be a waste of time and money to return a pretty kick arse laptop.

Just my two cents.

Good Luck
