Just a short post. Now that the 5670 is basically "out" , what is going to be your choice between the two and why?

....8887

at 1600x1200 res, i really need a bigger screen (16.1 vs 15 in this case). Moreover i've heard of heat issues regarding the 56XX series, so......., but i must admit 5670 is not only cheaper but sexier too....

If I didn't buy 8887 yet, I will buy 5670 for sure... I really love the look of 5670 and dual battery feature.... 16.1" on 8887 is nice, but I plan to get external 20.1" LCD if I bought 5670.

I think that the 5670 will be a better than an 8887. I had the same dilemma over the 5660 and the 8886 2 months ago but, I ended up with the 8886...and it is a beast. The viewing angle of the 8887 could get annoying and IMO the tv turner and MP3 player are sick features, but they aren't necessary..
The 5670 is really the best bang for the buck too (again IMO)

Jeeze that didn't take long...

I was wondering how soon until all the X vs. Y stuff came out. Every new model gets it, so it's to be expected.

Yeah!!

This is the exciting part - where everyone babbles about nothing in particular

Still it is still the same story as the 5660 vs 8886 vs 8887 battles of the past.

It will be interesting to see if the 5670 performs better than the 8887 - Sager will tune it down I expect to avoid it from eclipsing the 8887 (as i suspect they did with the 5660's that started shipping when the 8887 was released)

But in either case we know how to bring everything to an equal platform and test the performance.

Honestly speaking I expect the 5670 to gain 100 points +/- 20 on the 3D Mark 2003....

I personally don't see the big WHOOP-to-DOOOO that the 5670 brings. OK, 3.06 and HT... oooo and another 64MB of video memory...

Well, fine, but the REAL accomplishment is the cooling system. Thankfully, they got it worked out (or I hope so) that will translate to a better 56xx in 6 months or so.

I just like the larger screen and the extra hds you can have with the 8x but the 5x is sexier

Well my dilema will be battery life I am hoping that it will do at least 3 hours with the dual batteries installed and all the bells and whistles included.

I agree. I had a 5660 for about 2 months (and then returned it, but that's another story), and it had some serious heat issues. For instance, during my final back with disk image (or what ever powerquests software is called), the first time, it overheated and shut itself off. Now, this is a dos program, and it was sitting on the floor in my room. I actually had to turn it sideways, and have the vents pointing straight at my wall inorder for it to finish the process. That's sad.
