IBM seems to have added more middle configurations.
I am looking at a "middle ground" T42 Express model right now. It is the middle screen Flexview 1400X1050 (not the super hi-res one), 1.7GHz Dothan, 512MB RAM (1 DIMM), 64MB 9600 (not the 128MB Fire2GL), the 60GB 7200rpm, wireless b/g, XP Pro and 3 year warranty. It is $2,149 + tax with the DISCOVER CARD 15 percent discount. The only "bummer" is having to pay tax.
I thought this model was the best deal available from the one's I sifted through on IBM's site. If anyone is interested I can send you the SKU#, just PM me.
Do you really think this is an "outrageous price" compared to an ASUS M6N?? It really is not much more money. I just priced an M6N with 3 year warranty and the same specs for $2,083 and you have to add shipping to that, the IBM ships free via ground. Yes, you can delete XP Pro from the M6N, and you can find it at cheaper places, and drop it to a one-year warranty. It really comes down to what you think is the better system. I am still looking for some advice to clinch the deal one way or another.
