Why would you not get this Acer Centrino...

Thread Starter
Link to Acer Aspire 2012wlmi

This is a sick notebook. Great features...

Looks are killer too. Very sharp.

Very good price as well, I can get it somewhere else for $1599 but NewEgg.com has good pictures of the Note Book.

For $1599 I think it is a great deal. Do you think the Radeon 9700 64MB will be pretty nice? 5 Hours of Battery life? I want this thing right now.

What do you think?

if it had 128MB video memory, it'd be mine right now...

I personally want a faster processor than my desktop (Athlon XP 2100+) and at least 1GB of ram... Also, I want at least a 128MB graphics card. I don't really care about battery life since I don't see myself using my desktop replacement at places without outlets all that often.

Otherwise, I guess it looks alright. Any idea about the speed of the hard drive? I wouldn't go for anything less than 7200rpm. Also, I actually WANT the 1600x1200 UXGA available with Sager.

If it's sick notebook, why would anyone want to consider it?

Contact PC Torque and see if they can get one for you.

Also, there is a seperate forum for "other" laptops. Please use it.

It's only got a 15.4" screen.

It's only got a P-M 1.5.

It's only got 64mb VRAM.

Doesn't have internal Bluetooth.

Doesn't have an internal card reader.

Doesn't have RAID.

Can't install two hard drives in it.

Doesn't have 1gig RAM.

You asked the question. I answered.

Reasons I wouldn't get this one: low resolution (1280x800 I believe) and low video ram. If you want to look at a real competitor, check out the Acer 8006Lmi....2.0Ghz Dothan, 128mb 9700, bluetooth, DVI output, and 1400x1050 resolution, among many other niceties.

Why not get the compal 5:6 has all that and the 9700 with 128M. Thats what I would do, not that it matters.

The real killers from Acer are the new 8000 series: new Dothan processors, 1gb RAM, 80gb HD, ATI 9700 128mb, 2.88 kg weight, 1400x1050, Bluetooth, WiFi, very slim, up to 5 hours battery, 4 USB ports, extraordinary well built.

All that for 2000'ish bucks.

I couldnt resist it, and did order a unit. Should arrive next Tuesday

Cheers!

Take a chill pill, G-Omaha. It's an internet forum board. You act like a dictator from WWII (what's his name??)

The 8006LMI (i think that's the model) has a 2ghz centrino with 128mb vid card. The Aspire 2025LMI has a 1.8ghz centrino, 15.4"WXGA, and a 128mb vid card.

They look like nice machines. I'm waiting on the new 17" A64 Sager and Hypersonics.

You mean "Uncle Adolf"?

You'll have to excuse me if I though that "Sager General" pertained to "Sager Laptops" and that the other forums pertained to "other" Laptops.

Now, if informing "Mkefox" to use the proper forum is "bad", I think that you are mistaken. The comment was tendered so that he would/could get more coverage for the topic at hand.

Some people.......just haven't a clue......

I'll use your quote:

Agree. I used to visit and debate on this forums quite actively before, as you could get and share good info here. But it's been a while since it's become nothing but a Sager "cult" and "workshipping" conference. I agree that it's a Sager dedicated board, but good info beats fanboism everyday of the week.

Oh well.

How can you not know adolf's name?? Anyways that does look like a decent notebook but it still has a centrino and that's enough for me not to get it.

Here it is straight up. Sagers are primarily high performance machines. You would't ask a drag racer about how to get maximum gasoline mileage. You also wouldn't use that same drag car to drive from NYC to LA on one tank of gas. We all have different uses for our machines and they are all built for different uses. But, a bunch of high performance crazed, over-clocking battery burning users are the wrong bunch to ask about a machine that is designed to last 5 hrs on a battery and only draws 65 watts of power.
