5690 modem problems/loud fans

Ok I've had my 5690 about a day now....and I cannot get it to connect to either of my ISP's with any sort of speed over 14.4kbps. I'm on my desktop machine (same phone line) connected at 48.0kbps right now.

When I go to dial in it takes FOREVER to connect. If I go into the Modem Settings icon in the control panel, and enable the 'Safe Mode 1' option under modem helper, it will connect at 26.4kbps. Also, the Dell 9100 I sent back last weekend would connect at 48.0kbps as well.

I ran the Modem Helper Diagnostics and it came back with this code (if it helps anyone) 004E000+13.0

The other issue I have is the fans are loud, even when the machine is idle at the desktop (and I'm trying to sleep). Once and awhile one of them will spin up to full speed for a second or two, then spin back down. I know Henrik was working on some stuff, but is there any other way to set the fans to just run at a consistant speed? This machine is a good bit louder than the 9100 I had and I wasn't really expecting it to be.

Thanks for any help.

OK...an update. I tried downloading the driver off of Sagers page (had to be uhh...extremely patient, I got 16.8kbps that dialin) and installed it. No change. Getting curious I changed the country setting from US to UK and dialed in at 46.6 WTF!!!!

well, it still seems to be hit or miss....one time I get 14.4, the next 48.0....I would lean towards a phone line problem if I hadn't of dialed in 10 times in a row with my other PC as a test at 48.0kbps.....guess I'll call Sager on Tuesday and see what they say.
