Go for the UXGA, thats what everyone that has one says. Search the forums and you will find MANY discussions about the screens

I want to know, does UXGA have more or less ghosting than SXGA? After all the debating I *still* cannot figure it out...

BTW, I am ordering a 5670 very soon (next few days). I do not want to have to wait for the M10/800 FSB and when it does come out I know I will not be able to afford it (I cannot spend much more than I am spending now)

Where do you guys buy the 5670? Sager's website doesn't have that model on there that I can see, only the 5660.

I decided to get the UXGA because of the higher contrast, the wide angle screen, and the brighter display (if it's too bright, you can adjust gamma settings). Also, I think I remember reading that the UXGA has a faster response time of 30 ms or the like. So, ghosting shouldn't be a problem at all. If text is too hard to read on this 15" LCD with UXGA, I can try enlarging the text size I guess.

Well, you could always turn the resolution down a few notches and just use the high resolution for games... The only reason I'm thinking of getting it is for playing DVDs and the wide viewing angle.

But I remember reading a post where someone said they felt it was ghosting more with the UXGA. Is this true or not?

nice computer. I was thinking of getting the 2.8 Ghz CPU also. Just curious why you chose 2.8 over 3.0 gHz?

I feel that $210 is not worth getting the extra speed and HT....what can it do for me? with the $210 I save I can buy some games!

Curious about what other think on this lin eof thought.

Thanks Ratha, you're a great source of info!

HT was the only reason IMO to get the 5670...

I think HT was the only thing that attracts people to the 5670 because now they have the better screen of the 5660, the dual battery set up, smaller size and weight and what the 5660 didnt have - HT !!!

the 128MB GPU offers very little in terms of performance but I am fairly sure you didnt pay too much for that upgrade...

Still I am baffled by the decision to wait for the 5670 and then get a non HT version...very puzzling...you could have had the same stuff cheaper in the 5660 a long time back and be playiong games all this time

What does HT stand for?

LOL

No offense : HT = HyperThreading...

cheers!!

GSFerrari I read the link. I still don't see how HT is worth $210 dollars? What specifically can a sager with HT do that your own 5660 cannot. Come on we all want to brag about having top of the line stuff, but HT will not help me play games better or surf the net faster. The faster cpu will but 2.8 to 3.06 ghz does not seem like it's worth $210. IMO

In other words you still haven't convinced me.

The benchmarks for the cpu with HT were not much better than the CPU without HT.

think of it this way...

HT is multitasking heaven...

But you are right - my needs are primarily gaming so HT didnt matter - but if you are into DV or Audio then HT will be a big plus.

But I would recommend getting the 5670 with the 2.4 CPU and upgrade to HT in the future when the CPU's cost a lot less..

I unfortunately dont have that option because I am sure the 5660 mobo doesnt support HT which is a shame...

Still heres waiting for the next gen 5XXX in October. I will have one of those for sure...

Check out the one at anandtech... I don't want to post the link, too lazy.

Basically, HT is better for programs which need one calculation run before another one can be run, such as rendering programs and rippers (MP3, DVD, etc). The performance gain on benchmarks of these two processes are incredible. So if you are into either of them, I'd recommend HT.

Of course, it's also a faster processor.

Can anyone answer my question about ghosting on a UXGA vs. ghosting on a SXGA?

5660 ghosting ?

This has not been an issue with the 5XXX series as far as I know. I think drivers will cure ghosting in most 8887's as well...Not sure though - let the owners of that beast speak out...

That is what I'm going to do... I don't have anything in my computer case that can take advantage of HT right now anyway. I'm running an athlon 1.2 with 256 ram, 32 vid card....
My computer works just fine, but a pain to take with me on trips. I did purchase a flat panel to make the trips better... but I want something small and powerful. Having the option to upgrade to HT 3.06 (at least) is good enough for me, I believe, for couple of years. Unless M$ comes out with a new OS or a program is introduced that I really need that tax the 5670 system . But I don't think it will happen.

Well, I haven't been waiting all this time. I recently saved the money to get this baby, and I just recently learned of PC Torque. Right before I was ready to buy, the 5670 came out, and I chose that over the 8886/8887 because of the cheaper price. I don't really need a TV tuner (it'd be nice, though)

consider this...

get the 5670 by all means - just get it with the 2.4Ghz CPU first...you can get the HT cpu's later when the prices drop..

The 2.4Ghz cpu is good enough for all your games dont worry...the GPU is what counts and the 128M9 is up to the task.

Save the money and buy yourself some gaming hardware, games and speakers...

Also - get minimal RAM and buy RAM from outside companies like Crucial or Corsair...

think and consider what I say...
