8790 WSXGA+ Screen vs. Toshiba or Sony

Hello all,
I am looking into buying a 8790 with this configuration:
3.4GHz Northwood
1024MB ram
WSXGA+ Screen
ATI 9700 Mobility
60GB 7200rpm Hard Drive
DVD+-RW 4x / CD-RW
8-cell w/ TV tuner

After browsing these forums, I have still not found a clear answer to my question: How does the screen compare (in brightness, viewing angle, etc.) to the 17" Toshiba laptops with the glossy screen and the Sony Vaios with the "XBrite" technology? I have seen the screens of the Toshiba and Sony compared to other laptops, which blows them away. I wish I could see the screen in the 8790 in person, but I have no idea where to find one.

I have also noticed that at sagernotebook.com it calls the screen a "WSXGA+ with Super Clear Glossy Surface" and at pctorque.com it call it just a "WSXGA+ LCD." Am I correct in my assumption that these are both the glossy screens even though unstated at PCTorque?

These may seem like simple questions, but any responses would help me in my decision. I am leaning towards the 8790, but the screen quality could change my mind.

Thanks for your time,
-Ryan

They are indeed the same. You might try reading here. Photos included earlier in the thread as well.

I haven't seen the other glossy screens. I can however tell you that my 8790 glossy WSXGA+ is the best looking laptop screen I have ever seen and I've been doing this since 1983. Two comments from a couple of guys at work might kind of give you some idea of how it looks. The first one was "It looks like a 35 MM Photo." and the next one was from one of the unit's sysem administrators "It looks better than 1/2 the CRTs around here." My personal desktop is a Samsung SyncMaster 950b. My 8790 LCD gives up nothing to it as far as the human eye can tell. I don't know what else to tell you.

Thanks for your opinons. It has help reassure me of the quality without seeing one of these screens in person.

I personally love the screen on my 8790. The two most common comments I receive on it are either "Thats such a nice screen." or "That things huge!". Some people tend to dislike it for the size, but everybody agrees the screen looks great. And I have not seen the Toshiba or Sony XBrite, but I am under the impression they are the same screen, as these screens were developed not too long ago and are the only 17" WSXGA+ LCD screens that exist at this time.
