Had been looking at Sony units all last year (I've had my current VAIO for 3 yrs now) and ended up reading about Gone Gold
with Falcon NW
and decided that I wanted to see if they offered anything in laptops. While searching for info for them, I came across Alienware. I'd recalled seeing ads of theirs and upon learning that A) Falcon NW didn't sell laptops and B) the A51-m's were cool
, I was sucked in.Conspiracy Blue
here I come! Found these forums last summer sometime and followed them for quite some time before ever trying to register. After having problems registering, it was some time after that that I actually started posting. About the time I'd decided to jump on the AW bandwagon, AW raised their prices
Think that was around Christmas or so. I'd been sold on the upgradeable vidcard at the time, so I was miffed because I hadn't seen anything else w/ that option. Not sure what it was that led me to look @ the Sagers- think it was just the sheer amt of ppl around here that had 'em and couldn't say enough good about them.
I peeked and that was all she wrote. The 8790 smokes the A51-m in every way except for the coolness factor. The 8790 is sleek and cool in its own right, but the
has its own slick appeal. But for the money, AW just isn't even in the same league, IMO.
Before the 8790 was released, I briefly flirted w/ a couple used A51-m's just because my patience had worn down to a nub. I'm glad that the deals didn't go through. Definitely pleased w/ the powerhouse that I'm typing on right now. Not that it's perfect. It's definitely not
that. But I'll still take it over the A51-m.
I don't hate AW. Opposite in fact. I still think they're way cool. Would love to have a
A51-m as a toy, but that's kind of a pipe dream at the moment
For now, I'm on top o' the world w/ the 8790. And the AW machines just can't touch that.
