I have my xbox for live, even though 90% of my gaming is done on my laptop, which is more than descent for gaming , but less thann perfect

So for me, all my mods are for my laptop only, i'm painting it, and doing the LED mods(not the power/hdd/battery ones, but the speaker ones)

xbox uses ide.. if you search up on google you'll find a trillion sites on how to do it.. though it's not half as efficient as just putting a new dvd drive in the xbox and burning games on dvd.. plus the new dvd drive will decrease loading times significantly.

anyways i own both xbox and ps2 also.. i rarely touch the playstation - the only reason i liked it was for GTA but i can play that on PC and xbox now with significantly better graphics.. so screw ps2..

So if you are heavily into XBOX LIVE, then modding isn't much good for you. It's all the non-LIVE stuff (media player, DVD player, etc.) in addition to the local games (ripped to HD).

Let's be honest, modding the xbox is mostly for pirates.

lol yeah, why else would you have a giant hard drive and a dvd drive that can read DVD-R "backups"? let's all bow down to myrkat the wise!

You are absolutely correct. It's just nice to have the Xbox there. Plays DVD's, get some 4 person madden going with the friends. All in all, I am quite pleased with the Xbox. But you are correct, there is nothing that can beat a gaming computer.

Heh, yeah, it is pretty obvious... a no-brainer, as it were.

All my hacking went into my DTiVo unit...

I have to vote PS2. Mostly for the variety of games (not worth buying an XBOX for the one or two games I want). That and FFX is about the greatest game I have ever played.

I'm so sick of people who say there are only 1 or 2 games for XBOX worth buying. It's cause you listen to people with PS2's saying that only certain games are good. Well:

1. The online service is the best, worth more than you pay

2. Try unreal championship, mechassult, halo, counterstrike, tons of sports games, many others, etc...., mix that with a microphone and broadband ONLY internet service, and that's a decsent console.

3. They are both good systems, and im not saying PS2 sucks, anyone who says one sucks, and has no reason is very dumb.

everything that you said about XBOX live is very, very true, but remember that PS2 online functions are not pay to play by nature, only certain games force you to pay a subscription fee (everquest, FFXI, etc.). of course, the PS2 online thing allows dialup as well, so that's definitely a slight downside, but some games force you to have broadband (socom II, etc.) in order to play online.

I just like a simple system where I can pop in a game and play for a good 10-30min. with my kids. So far, XBOX isn't it. But I like the games I have played for it. PS2 is also nice, but I like XBOX's controls better (but again, I am no gammer-type, so what do I know).

I'd like to try out the N64, but I already have an XBOX, so an additional system would be frowned upon by my wife (because of clutter and to her, they're all the same - games on the TV).

yup, i really dont like the playstation controller (had a PSX, and that was enough to turn me to XBOX). the analog was really screwy with fps' (only had metal gear solid and 007: world is not enough cuz i never used the thing much ) and, IMO, gran turismo 2 (always liked it better with the d-pad). only reason i'd want a PS2 is gran turismo, i loved the first 2 dearly and want to play the 3rd and 4th (when it comes out) real bad.

I went and got a old n64 from gamespot for 10 bucks, picked a few of old favs.
Thinking of getting a dreamcast just to play Worms on it.

Have the ps2 but i do prefer the xbox controllers.

I'll use my computer for online gaming.

Unreal and mechassualt never captured my attention, I thought Halo sucked (my opinion), have CS on my computer, and PS2 has good sports games too. Also, I use a microphone on my PC over my broadband connection.

I prefer the PS2 because the XBOX would just duplicate some of the functions of my PC, but that doesn't mean its the same for everybody.

Though i have to agree 99% of my gaming is done on my laptop. I hardly ever even use my XBOX/GCUBE/PS2. The PC is the best for gaming, though with the current technology, it's because the consoles are so far away from PC's, with what they can do. that, and i prefer, keyboard/mouse, to, controller.

Seriously? You are the first person I have come across to say that (everyone else says they should have taken a page out of Nintendo's book). The current joke I hear is that they should make Dance Dance Revolution for the XBOX because you could just use the standard controller for the dance pad.
