asus m6n bios

Anyone tried out the new bios update(s) from ASUS? There's 207 and 208... I'm running 206 and not sure if the upgrade will do anything really substantial... any takers?

Thanks.

The rule of thumb is NEVER update a BIOS unless a new one is released that is supposed to fix something that you have experienced being wrong. Otherwise....always leave it alone. It will have brand new fixes with brand new bugs.

Famous last words

It would be really nice if Asus at least had release notes, so we could see what their trying to fix.

My machine has been really stable... I'd hate to screw that up...but the temptations to update... may...be....too.....strong....

Leave it alone if you can. Lots of companies void warranties if you update the BIOS... what does _that_ tell you?!?

It tells me to avoid buying from companies that release undocumented BIOS updates, or BIOS updates that void warranties...

what companies void them for updating the bios?

gigabyte voids motherboard warranties... found that out the hard way

I believe that companies will only void the warranty if you use an unsupported bios update ( from a 3rdParty developer, or from another region ). I've never heard of a company releasing a software update for their product and then claiming that if you updated, they will no longer honour their warranty.
In any case, Asus does not consider updating the bios to void your warranty.
However, that being said, if the update of a bios messes up WHILE its updating ( the machine turns off) , then you may be up a creek...

Thanks

Thanks for all the replies!

I think I'll stick with 206... Unless ASUS or someone can tell me what the BIOS updates actually update, I like my system as stable as it is now.

My desktop system was never, and I mean never, as stable as my m6n is now.

Gotta give ASUS a round of applause for getting all of their drivers working so well together and with winXP.

Thanks!
