Benchmarking a 9700

What is a good Benchmark score when running 3DMark03 on a system with my specs? My specs are in my signature...

Thanks

You should prolly get around 3400-3500 in 3Dmark03. That bench mainly tests the video card...so the rest of the components don't affect the score much.

So then a 3414 is good? What benchmark tool would test everything? Aquamark? What would be a good score in that?

Your score looks right. 3dmark2001se is a little more complete in the hardware tests, PCmark04 is good for non-game benches, actual games are the best benches for in game (duh) performance. Aquamark is supposed to be good, but I haven't used it much. Remember that benchmark programs are generally not indicitive of actual game performance, which is why many magazines/reviewers use actual games.

3dmark03 tests purely your gpu power

its not a good test of overall system performance (ie cpu, ram, etc)

aquamark is a better benchmark because it is based off a real game engine, but even then the bulk of the score is still gpu dependant

i'd recomend getting a program called "benchemall" google it and download it, its free... and it allows you to standardize benching the latest games like farcry, ut2004k... and since these are real games, it is a better test of your overall system performance in real game tests

as someone said, yeah, i got a 3413, so that's a good score on the 9700. I accidentally messed up my settings though, so I have to go reset em at somepoint.

in aquamark i got a 32k something and in 3dmark 03 i was tipping 4k

thats with a sager 8700 3.2, 1gig, 256 9700 OCed @ 540/297
post #9 of 46
I just reseted my thingys and got a 3414. so that's a good standard number. i'm sure if i oc'd it then I'd be able to near tip 4k. but it's so good now that I don't care about anything else. i'll let it remain so it's still under warrenty.
it would be under warrenty either way..its not like they know if you OC, also if you had a Sager it wouldent matter, doesnt void the warrenty -=P

jesus! what is it with trollers this week?! if you're gonna tell us that we made the wrong decision then buzz off... this is starting to get quite irritating.
sorry, we all are free to read any forum we please, but my point was you can OC and no one will know.
Chill out D...I don't think he meant anything by it. He was just saying that either company wouldn't know that a vid card burned out due to OCing, unless you point it out. Well, maybe he meant some thing by it, but it sounds more like a good natured rub than an insult...

I don't plan on overclocking... but I heard that if you buy the ALien Adrenaline, which i have, you can overclock and it be under warranty.
I was under that impression Turmoil, but i got told other stuff by a techie that helped me.

You may have a point Flappy...

sorry about snappy at you steadfast, i've been having issues with another guy who won't let up about us making the wrong decision with alienware and i was a bit peeved at the time.

Yep. that's true... and if you burn your VC with that software AW have to replace it because they sold it to you.. that's nice....

video cards rarely burn out as a rule, you may crash, but they dont fry, a CPU is more likely to fry due to a OC.

Actually, I've had 2 desktop cards burnout, without (major) OCing. Luckily both under warranty.

flipjacks, from what i've seen cards may burn out, but they would be going out either way, OCing doesnt really cause it.
