Headphone plug cracked; In need of advice

I'm hoping one of you has some good advice on getting them fixed.

I have a pair of the Sony DJ Headphones, MDR-V700. (I know some people dislike them with a passion and think they're a waste of money, but please leave that out of your response. Besides, with a friend working at BB they were only $70 <_<)

The exact problem: The base of the gold connector plug (I'm not an audiophile; please forgive any incorrect terms) is cracked all the way around. It doesn't pull off, yet I'm not exactly tempted to try. The sound is at it's former quality if I plug it in 3/4 of the way, but if I plug it all the way in I need to use a thumb and put pressure on it to get it to work. But then it gets caught on it's way back and I have to twist it around :/

The only option I can find is to send it back to Sony with $74 for a replacement. Forgive my language but I think that's complete and utter bull**** considering it's only the plug. Do I have any other option? Are there any store chains that would be able to replace the end?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I am not sure of the exact connector on the end of your headphones. It could be one of three:

1/8" stereo mini
1/4" stereo
1/4 / 1/8" adapter.

If it is the screw on adapter, then all you need is the new screw on adapter.
In the event that there is no adapter, you need to buy a replacement connector at a place like radio shack and solder it on. Very easy. There is an online store that sells everything you need.
