acer laptops

Since i've pretty much decided that my next computer is going to be a laptop, which of these sounds like the best choice: acer ferrari 3200 w/ aftermarket 1gig of ddr400 and maybe a new hard drive; stock acer 1712smi/sci; acer 2025wlmi (forget how much ram it comes with, so if 512 standard, same aftermarket upgrade to 1gig ddr400); hugebee 556d17y from internetishop.com; sager 4080; or compal cl56. i want something that will be able to playing upcoming titles like hl2 and doom3, have decent room for upgrades, small enough to barely fit in a backpack, and something that WONT COST MORE THAN $2250! if anyone actually took the time to read through all of this crap and can come up with a conclusion, please post it! much thanks in advance!

How are you going to get the Acre 3200 for under $2250 after you get a 1 gig of DDR 400 ram and a faster hard drive???? Good luck on that plan. As far as your other options, I would go the Comal CL56. You can most defiantly find it for under the price you are looking for.

nah the ferrari for sure. u'll probably end up over your mark with a new hard drive and ram, but the 64 bit cpu will give u the uper hand in gaming, mainly because youll probably be the first of your friends to have a 64 bit around to play new games. lol get the ferrari its super sexy

Unfortunately your bottleneck for games is going to be the GPU, not the CPU so having a Athlon 84 probably won't do you much good.

are there any places besides powernotebooks, rjtech, and hypersonic that sell the cl56? cuz the one that i want can only be found for $2500 on any of those sites.

if u go the ferrari 3200 route, ud be wasting money buying more expensive ddr400 ram. check specs, but im pretty sure it only supports ddr333.

and the a64 itself supports ddr400. it makes no sense to me why it wouldn't support ddr400. anyways, still a good point. how possible would it be to replace the processor at a later date?

i believe discountlaptops.com will get you the cl56 with maxed out specs for under $2200 (2.0 dothan, radeon 9700 128mb, 60 gig 7200 rpm, 1 Gb DDR333)

amazing, isn't it. 2x the speed of my desktop at 6.5 lb

really? ill try that. also how does the 1.8 dothan compare to the 2.0 dothan, a 3.2-3.4 p4, or a mobile a64 2800?

ok, i have narrowed everything down to 3 notebooks: the compal cl56, the mitac 8050, and the ferrari 3200 (which will be upgraded in terms of ram). i would only want the ferrari because i really like the a64s and its the cheapest configuration that i have found so far. if you can offer any insight, please do so! also, just out of curiosity what does everyone think of ibuypower.com? they had some pretty nice deals on their website in terms of pentium m notebooks.
