Installing Mini PCI Wireless card, Pictures

Hey Guys:

I just want to share some pictures when I installed my Intel MiniPCI 802.11b/g.

This wireless card work fine if you work close to your access point.
For best distance I recommended a PCMCIA Card (I use Motorola 802.11b/g card too).

I thought those cards weren't very good?!? How has it worked for you?

I purchased the new card AW is offering for $35 last week. I previously had the notorious Aetheros model. I must say the new model improved performance for me to a measurable extend.

There still is no denying that a PCMCIA card is the ticket...especially if you're looking for maximum range. With that said though, for me, the internal works like a charm in our current living situation.

i thought the grey wire was supposed to go to the "main" terminal. Was that just for the Atheros card? Have you tried connecting it as such...any better performance?

after i get some good word of the new card, i plan on buying one.

Actually I took off my keyboard all fine without resorting to popping out those keys and i didnt have any problems (except for the old Atheros wireless card, but thats a different matter).

is the wireless card that alienware offers good?

What is the standard card that comes in AW now? I got mine with the internal wireless card and I have to be within like 10 feet of my router to get a connection. However when I am at school I can be across a room that is like 100ft across and get a great connection, even through walls. Could it be that I have a crappy wireless router or the card might not be too great?

I got the internal wireless card with my alienware and i was able to cross the street with it earlier today on my test run. I would say i was a good 100ft away from my router and i still have a connection....not much but fast enough to keep the cable connection at full speed. I choose this card because i had a pcmia card im y last laptop and it annoyed me because it stuck almost and inch off the side of the laptop. I love the internal card it works just great for me. Im also using a D-Link 802.11g 2.4Ghz wireless router.

I got the PCMCIA card from AW with my laptop a couple days ago and I get 5 networks from my apartment... 2 of which are Excellant and this doesn't count my own network

At my parents house I get 1 network on low quality but its atleast 500ft between houses here and I was inside in a room.

Now I just need to get one that accepts an external Antenna! I bet I`d get around 10-20 at my apartment!! All of which were unsecure lol!

do u need to put the metal cover back on
The metal cover also serves as support for the keyboard.

Congrats on the PHASE game, by monday you should be shipping already. Then you will be switching from refreshing AW's status site to the shipping company and following the route it takes to get to your house.

Happy refreshing bruddah!
Merry Christmas!
And that New year, too!
