Good info, and just in time!

Thanks for the heads-up! I'm sure there are many people who cannot wait to give this new utility a go. I should point out, like the previous version, this download is 45MB+ so be warned.

I downloaded them and tried to install them, but they wouldn't work! Any ideas on how to fix it?

Having trouble installing new driver!!!

THanks for the link to the new TV-Tuner driver. Question - I ran the main setup and when I select to install the -TV Utility Software - it does nothing. I installed the from the \tvfleet\ directory, but when I go to record it still crashes....HELP.

Thanks

I did the installation of the new software/drivers on mine, and it finally works correctly and doesn't crash. You need to remove the old drivers and software before installing the new. Inside one of the folders in the new software is a program to remove the drivers. I doubt it will delete the software, so you'll need to do that with through the control panel.

Daryl - Thanks! !! That worked great. Removing the old driver and then installing the new one was the trick. Hopefully I can now capture some home movies to DVD.

Thanks,

Now that you have it working...
I've found that I can greatly improve the recorded quality by changing the recorded format to 640 X 480 pixels instead of the default 320 X 240 (records 4X as many pixels), and I increased the video bit rate to about 5600. This uses 45 MBytes for every minute of video, but that's still 95 minutes on a 4.3 GByte DVD. I also plan to transfer home movies to DVD, but can't do it right now because we're in Yosemite National Park in our RV, and I'm running off the inverter, and it puts small lines in the recorded display. I can run our generator and get a sine wave and the lines go away, but I don't want to run the generator long enough to figure out how to change the recorded video into a DVD. I got the internal DVD recorder, and also purchased the Sony one that records in all formats.

If not, no sweat. Enjoy the park, if your still there.

Heh, not sure if you're joking... reminds me of that commercial (or whatever it was) where the three guys would come on, and one would say, "Hi, I'm Daryl. This is my brother Daryl and my other brother Daryl" or something like that...

What inverter are you using? I'm going on a trip in a month and plan on using my Sager with my Statpower Portawattz1000 (Modified Sine). Do you have any issues with the inverter other than recording video?
It's a 2000 watt modified sine wave Trace inverter. I feed it from four 6-Volt golf cart batteries. I also have the direct 12 VDC to 8887 adapter that PCTorque sells. It's very efficient and doesn't get near as warm as the regular 120VAC power adapter. Additionally I have one of the 150 watt cigarette lighter plug to 120 VAC adapters. I have no problems with any of them. The big inverter (and probably the small one) give small almost unnoticeable lines on the TV's.

VCR record WDM fault

I battled for hours to get the VCR record function working on my 8887 even after downloading the new software from Sager. I finally found a patch file on the FAQ's section of Sager's website that fixed the WDM fault. It's named "update.zip" and about 3.5MB in size.

Just wanted to share this with forum users to have others avoid the aggrevation I went thru to fix this problem.

Don, where is this file? I can't find even a FAQ section on www.sagernotebooks.com

I found one on Aver's site but it did not work for me.

I have gotton the application to work, using the HT Tuner dl from sager, but I would like to check this out.

Thnx,

The complete install of the TV-Tuner Drivers for the 8887-HT Enabled is as follows:

(1) Download the new drivers from Sager, http://www.sagernotebook.com/ftp/misc/tv_tuner_ht.exe

(2) If you have a previous version of the drivers installed, use the RemoveDriver.exe included in the new driver download. Uninstall the AVerTV software through the Add/Remove Programs. Reboot. You will not be able to access Device Manager after you do this. Don't worry -- there is a fix.

(3) Windows will find new hardware. Direct it to the new drivers.

(4) Download this patch to fix accessibility to the Device Manager, http://www.aver.com/support/Patch.exe

(5) Do NOT install the AVerTV software from the Sager website, as it is an older version. Instead download this file for the most recent version, http://drivers.aver.com/software/avertvstudio4.exe

(6) Install this update http://drivers.aver.com/software/update.zip to correct the WDM error message when accessing the Time Shift, Record or Playback capture file

(7) Now you can enjoy TV in a lappy the way it was meant to be!

Ditto 'Meth. Thanks for the info. Worked for me. After owning this puppy for about 3 months, I'm finally getting around to trying the TV Tuner. Pretty neat. It's a keeper! I've been watching the tube for several hours and doing some manual test recordings. Found I had to select AUX in Recording Control to get sound that didn't either echo or buzz. (Selecting TV Tuner recorded NO sound.)

I have a question about the drivers. I had never installed the TV Studio prior to upgrading the drivers (and probably not relevant to the drivers). Before I upgraded I had 4 drivers, something to the effect "AVER WDM Tuner, Crossbar, Audio, and Video". Following the instructions, I used the Removedriver.exe to uninstall, rebooted, and reinstalled the drivers when prompted, manually going to \TV_TUNER_HT\DRIVER twice, and installing only 2 drivers, TV WDM Audio Capture (878) and TV WDM Video Capture (878). (None now say AVER.) I no longer have a Tuner or Crossbar driver. I saw the AverTVStudio4 I downloaded (and later installed) from your link had Tuner and XBar drivers in the \DRIVER folder, but I couldn't install them via Add New Hardware or right-click\Install. I later installed the new TV Studio and all the patches specified.

As I said, I have been tubin' it and recording MPG VCR captures (haven't tried all the other features and captures) but am I missing something? Thanks.
