Centrino Thread?

Anyone know what happened to the Centrino thread for the PowerPro M 5:16 ? I am anxious to know if anyone is going to buy this from them - It would be nice to get a review.

Yeah... where did that thread go? I searched for and did not find it, either.

I do remember posting several things to it as well.

Maybe they're in the process of transfering the forums to the new digs in FL and something got lost/not backed up.

I especially want to see if you can decently game on it. After reading wayy to much on the Pentium-M, I still can't determine if it can/could handle a decent game!

Another issue I found while looking was that the people over at the dell forum are having a heck of a time trying to keep it (600m or d600) from underclocking while on battery. Oh well; I might just go with the 5670 after all.

I would think that it would not be ideal. I mean, I could be totally wrong here, but with the chipset basically shutting the processor OFF until it's needed, there needs to be a "gaming mode" - where nothing gets shut off. If something like that is in place, then it should perform well enough (the 1MB cache helps, but it's still only a <2GHz chip).

A good rule of thumb (thusfar) has been: Lower power = Better battery life / mobility.
Seems the Pentium-M and supporting chipsets are designed for the mobility market which is historically NON-gaming.

However, I will reiterate that this is my ASSUMED OPINION, and until I have or see a P-M blasting through Unreal2 or BF1942, then I'll hold to my theory.

I can't seem to find ANYTHING on how well Pentium M's are doing on the gaming scene; not even by a private review. The best I could find was "i ran quake3 on it" lol

Even so, I find myself drooling over those Acers The thing the Acer's have over the Sager as far as I can tell is more USB ports + Firewire port.

Why the heck did the thread dissapear? I am really considering this notebook, and was wondering others opinions on it.

http://www17.tomshardware.com/mobile...s_quake3_arena

this page has a M vs a 4-M benchmarked on quakeIII

havn't found an M vs desktop bench nowq, but based oin this, 1.6GHz M beats a 2.2GHz 4-M with a small margin!

The Pentium M is a very efficient processor. It is not comparable to the Pentium 4 (directly at least) as the P4 is a very INefficient processor. From what I've read the M chip puts out very strong FPU numbers which will help with those 3D games. As it stands if Intel or AMD were to put out 3Ghz versions of their chips (M and Athlon XP respectively) they would absolutely murder a 3Ghz P4.

As far as the stop mode everyone is complaining about, where have you read that it will cause any sort of delay? Most of those types of operations happen in sub-milisecond times, much faster than anyone could ever perceive.

while we wont know until someone buys one, i think it will still be very passable for gaming. Gaming still highly depends on the graphics chipset - and in this case it is equal with the Sagers. (Till the m10 comes out!! :-))

I mean my brother still uses a 900mhz t-bird, but has a ti4400 and he can run anything that I can.

Some confusion about the powersaving features of the notebook - while it defaults to off, you still have the ability to use that processing power while on battery - I mean all you have to do is look at the battery tests at tomshardware in that same article - presentation gets more than DVD which gets more than gaming. so the more you use the cpu, the less battery life you get.

this all being said, we just need someone to buy one first!!!

I got an e-mail saying that the forum is trying to avoid notebooks other than sager, because other resellers can post in them pretending to be a happer customer. So I think it got deleted.

most interesting... isnt www.powernotebooks.com one of the two official resellers of this forum? If that is the case, one would think there would be no problem talking about their product... personally, i just want to talk to someone who has bought this one - it looks interesting, but the jury is still out vs the sager for myself

I'm defiently interested in a review of a centrino for gaming..so if anyone finds it, POST IT!!!!!!!

I Dont think intel would design a processor only good for word documents and basic stuff, that'd just be bad marketing....then again it is intel GO AMD!! GO HAMMERS!!!!!!!!

but i wanna see more on the 2050!! if it has a 9600....then, jeeze *drool* its prime competition for the sagers....

Well, I did go and post over on the Dell forums asking how their version of the centrino (600m, d600) fared on gaming, but you know how those [edit] took out naughty words [/edit] Dell consumers are...*cough*

Or maybe Dell people don't game!

Ding! Just thought of something. Here's a quick thought to people who are interested in the Centrino systems:
Why the 5:16? After looking around, I thought the Acer Travelmate's look MUCH better. 4 USB ports, 1 Firewire compared to the 2 USB the 5:16 has. Also, we see no benches for the 5:16 on any subject...shoot, forgot it was named the Chembook too, *runs off to look to see if there's anything on it*

Btw, Adam said he was looking into having the Acer cents on his site, so its one we can discuss ^__^

There are no official resellers of the forum. We (pctorque) run and pay for the forums, but try to run them as open as we can and list other resellers we feel work hard for their customers. We don't get anything from it, we're just being honest about it.

Posts get deleted if there is ANY deceit or someone posting with personal agendas. Either the posts/replies go or the whole thread. Sorry if anyone is offended, but I refuse to have the forums used as marketing strategy. We do not delete posts from people having problems or anything negative to say about us or Sager. We would only do so if it was spammed across the forum or in an unprofessional way.

As for the Centrino, we have already sold a few in the Acer by special request, but we're still undecided of when/if we will be putting it on the website in a system builder. I'll keep it short and say if someone thinks the 1.6 Centrino system will hang with a 3.06GHZ P4 Sager, you're very wrong =). The battery life is a big plus though for sure.

We're just now getting settled into Florida and have a lot to do, but a lot planned. The chat software for the forums is actually up right now on our new server, but we're changing the look and a few things before I post it in a sticky.

I usually keep up with the forums, and that deleted thread in particular, but I didn't notice any unprofessional behavior or personal agendas (other than people discussing what the Pentium-M is). Perhaps I didn't see the offending post; either way, it was a good informative thread.

Well, let's hope this thread will live on in it's wake.

This forum is a godsend. I think that few among us would disagree... I've learned so much over the past several months.

PC Torque not only pays for this forum, but also seems to invest a heck of a lot of time and effort in it. Even now they are working on making it better than ever. That being said, it's just not fair to PC Torque for us to post about the reasons we want to buy a Dell, or a Toshiba, or any other competing notebooks (including the same notebook from other resellers). This intent of this forum is to provide us a place where we can answer questions about Sagers, offer/receive assistance with troubleshooting, and otherwise just shoot the breeze--not to promote Adam's competitors.

Heck, I'm suprised that Bazoo hasn't been banned yet... if I had a great forum such as this where a guy who bought the product I was selling from someone else, became unsatisfied, and then spent all his time promoting another product (APPLE, at that!), I would be furious.

My two cents.
