Centrino Thread? - Page 2

I agree

I dont deny recommending a few people to get an apple but these are the kind of people who would have trouble differenciating between a .dll and a .inf file (or is that too complicated already ? )

Bazoo has gon over the top - he has nothing good to say about sager and he has nothing to offer this forums. I suggest he visit the mac forums and I recommend having him banned.

This has to be one of the most friendly and open forums I have ever been on and I think letting him continue with his mac crap is taking the "we are nice" issue a little too far.

Ban him and anyone else who continues to put sager down and promote something else.

I appreciate the previous post for hitting the nail on the head.

Openness is a great thing but too much of it can be detrimental to your own wellbeing : Note Sager and Note Adam...

what do macs have to do with the centrino that this discussion was about in the first place? Im just curiuos as i fail to see the relevance.....

I suppose you guys have read tomshardwareguide...i know hes looked down upon in here, but he was good for several years, in any case, the 3dmark benchmarks were pretty g ood, better then the pentium 4m, wasnt considerable better. I guess its not gonna be for the uber-high performance guru's and just the occasional gamer, thats my prediction, but lets wait to get the review from Dill....

1. Myrkat, you are entirely correct. There was absolutely nothing wrong in the other thread; I just started out listing varioius questions about it, and we had a nice discussion from there. "Posts get deleted if there is ANY deceit or someone posting with personal agendas"; yeah, I guess my personal agenda was to find out information on the new Pentium M.

2. "As for the Centrino, we have already sold a few in the Acer by special request" My reasoning for bringing the 5:16 up was because I believed it was the closest to a Centrino system that I thought you would carry(I have/had every intention of buying one from you); but any benchmarks/first-hand experience we get from a review of the 5:16 could also reflect on the Acer Travelmate 800 series; which it seems like you carry/allow people to get through special request. Btw, the Acer series seems more appealing, but thats for another time...

"I refuse to have the forums used as marketing strategy" As for this statement, you know you are entirely out of line; By hosting a forum dedicated to your product, you are immediately drawing consumers to your site. Just because you are letting your customers do your marketing for you does not mean that the marketing is not being done.

As long as you brought in the topic of the macs...
"I realize Bazoo is here to promote Apple it seems any more, but what is being said isn't even close to popular opinion from the feedback I'm getting...Even our programmer Ratha that just bought a Powerbook is putting it to the side for Sager after having been around both often"
If that doesn't sound like someone marketing his own product, then I don't know what is...

Also, I don't believe Bazoo should be banned gsferrari. If you all were as openminded as you make it seem, there should be no problem with your situation. It's simply another opportunity to prove why your product *cough*marketing*cough* is the better choice of the two. If Bazoo feels like promoting Apple, make a stand and say why Sager is a better deal!

"Ban him and anyone else who continues to put sager down and promote something else." Wow. Replace 'sager' with 'dell', and you're starting to sound like them over at the dell forums...creepy...
"I dont deny recommending a few people to get an apple but these are the kind of people who would have trouble differenciating between a .dll and a .inf file (or is that too complicated already ? )" If you're just going to make fun of apple users...*shakes head*...I like them for graphic design work and the like, XP's for gaming, but to be calling them stupid? Show's how much you know....

And A nice big BY THE WAY:
I made it a point to PM this statement/rant to each member of this thread, just in case it..."disappears"...

Farewell.

Oh, a little note to Dill: Make sure you write your review in an outside program and save a copy first; you never know what might happen :P

First, I don't know why the thread is gone but I wouldn't draw any conclusions without knowing all the facts. In case you haven't noticed there are plenty of threads discussing other laptops and technologies and I believe the creation of this sub-forum is to address some of those without cluttering up the sager specific areas.
Thanks for the opinions. Threads aren't "disappearing" Threads get deleted for reasons I have said and as written in the rules PERIOD. What I mean by marketing strategy is others coming here trying to play the members. We hang out and would if we sold Sager or not. No, we don't want the forums promoting competitors, but we will gladly list them as reputable places to buy if they seem to be so because we feel it is only right. Someone PLEASE find another company that does this on their own dollar.

Everyone can assume they know everything that is going on and make judgments, but I assure you that you don't.

Okay Skye, you ruffled my feathers... I'm gonna haveta go "Old_Buzzard" on you...

First, Adam is right on about how his maintaining an "open" forum is extremely rare in this industry. You can read about my experience in another forum here and rest assured, this is how most of the industry is. Look, I'm not saying that running this forum isn't a profitable business venture for PCTorque (it'd be a crummy business decision on his part if it was), but at least he keeps it open to as great an extent as possible.

I've already laid into Bazoo, so there's no reason to rehash that here, but I think that thread represents a pretty good arguement as to why we should keep this forum focused on Sager.

So Skye-Taltos, you can officially my

We're all getting just a little out of hand here!

While I agree that PC Torque can run these forums however they choose, they have chosen to run it as an OPEN FORUM.

Why in the WORLD would someone ever be banned from an open forum? I mean, I could see it if all they did was SPAM or curse/offend, but if they talk up a mac in the "Other than Sager Tech/Computer Talk" or "Off Topic" sections, so be it. We all have the right to rebuttle, use it!

As for the disappearing Centrino Thread & Skye's post, as I stated I do not know why it got deleted and I can only respect Adam's comment that we do not know the whole story. If it is decided that we do not need to know the whole story, so be it. We simply started another thread and are back (basically) where we were with the other, original thread.

See? Open forums work. There are only a few rules to these forums, and it is QUITE RARE that I see things deleted/edited, so I'll chose to be respectful of the forum owners and moderators at this point.

As I PM'd Skye, I certainly hope this whole thing does not detract him from participation, as each and every contributor to this forum is a tremendous value. I have recommended other laptops to people (Macs, IBMs, DELLs, etc) on these very forums; in fact I have actually not recommended Sager to certain people in these forums - many folkes have. The idea is, this forum, while obviously Sager-biased, are becoming a great resource for laptop buyers.

The fact that a stranger can come to "sagerforums" and walk away realizing they are better suited for an iBook or a Dell speaks VOLUMES of the integrity here. That integrity, I feel, will translate to profit (in one way or another) for PC Torque and the credible vendors who participate here.

If I go to a store and the salesman recommends a competitor because it would suit me better, I would not only keep them at the top of my list, but said store would be my first suggestion to people who I think would benefit from their products and services.

Word-of-mouth is still (and always will be) the best form of advertisement, and the best way to get positive word-of-mouth praises is to have incredibly high integrity.

Enough of my ranting, let's get back to discussing the Centrino - and hope it makes it's way into a Sager.

"Old_Buzzard"...*chuckles quietly*

As we all know, one of the Centrino/P-M's main driving point is their outstanding battery life. The claims of 4-5 hours...is this while being continously underclocked, or running at their full 1.3-1.6 speed?

Also, the up-and-down time of the processors...I'm sure it wouldn't be noticable during applications such as Photoshop, but how would it fare during games? Accordingly, I've been reading about people having trouble trying to get their Centrino systems running at full speed on battery and others running them just fine. I just wonder how Speedstep and Co. are affecting this...

Thread Starter

You get more battery when you are using the processer less - that much is clear. But the processer does seem to be able to spool up on demand no problem - Without the power saving features, the centrinos main benifit is that it has a short pipeline. The p4 is meant to run at incredibly high clock speeds, and its pipeline is twice as long as the centrino.

I REALLY suggest reading some of the anandtech or toms articles on the subject - they really thoroughly cover it.

The laptop should ship by monday, and I ordered 3 day shipping. So I should have the review up next week. I think that these boards should be a discussion group for all laptops, not just sager. I would have ordered a sager if they werent so damn big, so I went with this one instead. I am by no means bashing on sager though.
though dill the larger the laptop the more it shalt fit

thats what I love about sager, 3 hds and a dvdburner?

can you say sweeeeet

Just an update, powernotebooks called me and told me that Intel was lowering the price of the Pentium M chips. They asked me if I wanted to hold my order so I could get it at the cheaper price. I did, so I hope it ships sometime next week. It amazes me that a company would make an effort to SAVE the consumer money. They are a cool company.

While that is a nice thing to do, I would bet that if you KEPT waiting, the chips will become REAL cheap after a while! Still, it was a nice heads-up option for them to offer.

At least not at the initial price-point. Perhaps it would have 2 years ago, but right now, people are tight with their money. It's all about BANG:BUCK ratios now.

Wow, if this chip was out 2 years ago, then it would probably have been slapped in a few desktop systems as well given its performance vs. the performance of chips 2 years ago. (I know what you ment, but it just got me thinking )
