What driver are you all using for the mobile 9700?

Thread Starter
Im getting my dell 9100 in a week or so, and I am going to wipe it of all the crap that comes on it and install XP fresh. What driver are you using for the mobile 9700? Are you just using the one from dell, or is there a newer one that you can get from ATI? LMK please.

Drivers

I've been switching back and forth, still really not sure which one is more stable. Currently using Omega, I guess many people use Omega for the overclocking ability.

Futuremark 03 3371

Pick Me I am an Omega Driver

Pick me if you like Orginal ATI Drivers

Pick Me I'll Take you to Dell ATI Drivers

Using modded (tool from driverheaven.net) ATI Catalyst 4.5 driver.
Original Dell driver was crashing (blue screen) at each cold start...

I had no problems with the original Dell drivers with the exception of the ongoing lock-ups when playing Call of Duty. Disabling hyper-threading in the bios eliminates the problem. Recently, I switched to Omega's. I have not used the overclocking feature, but I no longer have to disable hyper-threading with COD. So far, they have been very stable. Because of that, they have become my driver of choice.

Disable HT? That would suck. It would be like buying a Viper and then never shifting past 2nd gear 'cause the CD player skips.

I am using the stock Dell drivers. I have not had any lockups at all with it when running apps off of my XP partition.

Now, my Server 2003 partition on the other hand... BSOD every time I boot after installing the Dell ATI drivers or Catalyst 4.4 drivers. Ah well, I don't use that partition for gaming anyway, I just uninstalled the device on that partition and went on my merry way.

i just switched from the stock dell driver to the new omega driver and i got almost a 50 point increase in 3dmark03, however i did notice a couple of quarky things, for example when 3dmark03 completes its test, with the stock dell driver the little 3dmark03 window showing the score and the main 3dmark03 application would be centered, with the new omega driver, after the test completes, now the 3dmark03 window renders in the upper left hand corner, and the right side of it gets "cut off" with some text cut off. also, i noticed when i close the monitor and my machine goes into sleep mode, and i open the monitor and take the machine out of sleep mode, i get weird lines on my screen for half a second than everything is fine

other than that, like i said before 3dmark03 shows some improvement so i can live with the little quarks for now

ATI Cat's 4.4's. The 4.5's don't offer any speed improvement (at least that I'm aware of). Also, for whatever reason the 4.5's seemed slower. Maybe it's just me...

are any other things on quality instead of performance?

Anyone know if there are any Linux drivers for the ATI 9700 mobile?

Simply, the DELL drivers suck. Get the ones from Omega Corner if you want good performance. They are based on the latest 4.5 catalyst, ATi drivers. But will work on a laptop. Or you can modify the ATi ones here. For good performance. Both the OMEGA and ATi ones, will give you great performance. Performance varies with some games, so just randomly choose, ATi or OMEGA, you'll be happy both ways.

Sounds like I will be wiping Dell's Win XP install . and doing it myself.
I'd feel much better about it.
