Radeon 9600

Thread Starter
How are the desktop and mobile iterations of the Radeon 9600 related? What does the movement of the desktop vesions release from June to April mean for the laptop chip? Anything? There's been no news on the mobile chip since it was announced March 13. Could ATI spring it on us like it did with the desktops release movement? The cnet video of the ati engineer stated it would be out in a month, and that was March 13th, so, where is it,or where's the announcement of its delay? I'm confused and frustrated. ATI has been very good on it's release dates, as proven by the 9800, the previous M9, and even the desktop 9600. What's up?

Hey!!

I think the Radeon 9600 desktop variant IS the Radeon 9800 or isnt it??

If that is the case some Alienware systems are shipping with the Radeon 9800 (dunno if it is the pro version).

I am as confused with the nomenclature as you are lol

I am anxious to hear about the new Toshiba laptop with the new GeForce FX 5600 Go. Not that I want the Toshiba laptop, but only because I think if it actually does get released in Mid-April that it will be good news for all of us waiting on the 9600 Pro.
ATI needs to do something FAST because Nvidia will have the 3 best mobile graphic cards on the market (4200, 5200, 5600).

(continuing to keep my fingers crossed on an early release)

We can only pray that all the speculation might come true! and they release it early!

I hope it comes out soon as well. I'll be buying my laptop at the end of the summer before school starts and I want it out long before then so prices can drop. I hope nvidia and ati's mobile solutions are neck and neck in performance to start a price war. I'll be happy if when i buy my laptop I can get a 9600 with a 800mhz fsb HT enabled pentium for the same price the top of the line cost now, but I'll be even happier if its cheaper.

I really can't wait for this to come out. I am going to college next year, and have a 3000 dollar budget on a laptop (give or take about $200), and getting a directx 9 fully compatible graphics card in it would rock. I don't know how long I can hold off for though. It's just so tempting to push that submit button right now

You should wait. The performance difference between 9600 and 9000 are worth it. Plus the 800 mhz FSB pentiums will be out.
