it just turns off...

Thread Starter
i've had this problem in the past, but it's happened 4 times today, and just now twice in a row after restarting.

the problem:
the computer will just turn off.
i don't mean that windows shuts down, the computer completely powers off. no logging off the internet, no "shut down" just power off.

here's the weird part... i'll leave the computer on and running and go away, and i'll come back and it works. the second i start moving the mouse or using the keyboard... boom. it shuts off. it doesn't happen every time, but it happens and it has me worried.

has anyone else experienced this problem, or does anyone have any advice? i will call alienware, but after spending hours on the phone with a couple different people who do not speak english well, who suggest things i've tried many times and they say to try again, and never seem really very helpful, i'm apprehensive.

well, let me know...

There was another post with similar issues. I have not heard a follow up for it. It may have been resolved with bios update.

what version bios do you have?

If you do the bios update, be sure to have AW on the phone to keep your warranty intact.

Virus Scan? I've created Backdoors that did that. But that was back in the day.

Same Problem

I've had the same problem with the touchpad. Just wanted to let you know, you are not alone. I have the latest bios, so I'm waiting for and AW update that will hopefully fix it. That is, unless anyone knows of a fix.

Could be an overheating issue. If the processor gets too hot or it thinks its too hot it will shut itself off to protect itself, without any warning.

Try downloading a program like prime95 to work the processor. If it shuts itself off you have a problem. Its supposed to keep itself cool enough to keep running.
