1 GB RAM for 6809 - Page 2

Since the memory controller is on the chip, if the Athlon 64 3000+'s have problems with KTI (that's Kingston, right?) RAM, then yes...the M6805 will have problems with KTI RAM. Otherwise, it might just be a BIOS problem.

I have 6811 and just now i ordered the Kingmax 1GB stick.
Will this work for me or do i need to cancel the order.
Im scared now

RAM incompatibilities are generally rare, and usually point more to physical damage than anything else. So long as the RAM conforms to the standards set by IEEE (I think), then PC2700 SoDIMMs should work in any system capable of using them. I wouldn't worry too much.

I guess this thread is what scared me. He could of just had a bad stick. My Transcend is still working fine.

I have never used transcend or Kingmax on my desktop (I still don't have alappy) but the Crucial 1GB (on their site) was $450 last week. Crucial are a known brand but 450 is a bit too much, I think. I would suggest a brand that I have used on my desktop and has been lightning fast and rock solid for me and many other users - MUSHKIN. I have heard people who build machines call it the best memory one can get with only Corsair coming close. It is a bit exoensive, although at the same price with Corsair.
I have been a bit surprized to see that the 1GB RAM from the MUSHKIN site costs a bit over 300 bucks and is way cheaper than the Crucial. I intend to go for MUSHKIN when I get my laptop for I expect that their laptop dimms will be as good as their desktop ones.
has anybody here used MUSHKIN chips?

hey.... can anyone suggest 512 mb ddr pc2100 ram for my laptop which isnt too expensive but also is known to be good??? also i noticed a 64 x 64 on the list of ram.. what does it mean??

thanks
When memory is listed as AxB, they mean amount of "entries" by bits per "entry". So, for instance, 64 x 64 is 64 MB by 64 bits, or 64 * 64 = 4096 / 8 = 512 MB. This should just how the RAM is packaged on the chips, and usually does not really affect much. I don't remember all of the details, though.

EDIT: I got the order backwards, which changes the explanation and calculation, but only slightly.

i see thanks... Which is better??? Corsair / kingston / crucial or transcend??

I rec'd Kingmax 1GB stick yesterday. It's not working. It gives blue screen. Then i used Memtest86 to test the memory. On Extended test it throws some memory errors.

In my opinion, Corsair produces by far the best RAM available. Very low latency, very high quality, and usually comes with a lifetime warranty. At least, they did when I could afford Corsair RAM.
ye it stil comes with lifetime warranty.. though i wonder if anythin does go wrong with the ram what am i supposed to give to the corsair dudez?? im ordering it from zipzoomfly... am i supposed to give them my recept as a proof of my warranty??

You didn't read the entire thread, did you. I had success with
Transcend from NewEgg when installed in my M6805.

Hi Xenolith,
I read your upgrade using Transend Memory. I posted this to get more reviews about memory. I think only Transend Memory is posted here (for budget price).
And somebody also upgraded their M6809 using Transend (problem with overclocking).

Thank you

I upgraded with Transcend from NewEgg and have no problem overclocking.

You can get Samsung here:

I would think it would be the best choice since the original is Samsung. Who knows though, it may not even work . The price is definately good on it.

Anyone try Thunder's suggestion? Sounds like the best idea to me. I'd hate to order some new RAM and get stuck with BSOD!!

By the way Thunder, I knwo this is a bit off topic, but when you install the newer version of the omega drivers do you merely install over the top of the older OMegas? I know you originally recomended the omegas to me (thanks by the way!) so I thought I'd check with you before I install the newer drivers. Thanks!

Omega to Omega, I typically do. The author says it is ok to even even install over catalyst as long as you remove the old control panel. Just for peace of mind, cats came out first though.

One side note about the memory, I have 0 experience with that vendor also.

I don't see anything about Samsung in the description.
