a couple newbie questions

Thread Starter
any way to fix the fact that my screen is a bit brighter (and thus less readable) at the bottom because of the backlight? is there some software solution to make that area of the screen gradually darker to compensate?

also, is there a PCMCIA card out there that does wireless a/b/g AND wired 10/100?

as you can tell this laptop is a couple years old, it's a company laptop.

thanks

I don't think you can lower the brightness of the backlight only on a specific area, and I don't know of any triband PCMCIA card with wired Ethenet support, but I suppose it will be enough if you buy a triband PCMCIA card and a USB ethernet adapter.

I hope to have helped you :-)

The brightness at the bottom of the screen is called light leakage and it's actually a defect in the screen. There was a work-around posted that worked on some machines, but it isn't a permanent fix. I think it said to remove the AC adapter and battery and hold the power button for 20-30 seconds to discharge some circuitry. No software can help since the backlight can only be increased or decreased in brightness as a whole.

Correct, its a hardware defect that software cannot fix. Coolwaves79 is correct on the PCMCIA adapter.
