ok narrowed down to three, buying one for my daughter to go to college, either 600m for mobility and battery life, i8600 for power and battery life, or emachine 6809 for power and 64 bit technology, dont really know how much college student carry laptops to class but i know they take them to library so i dont think the mobility is that big of an issue, please talk to me thanx

OK, you asked.

If someone gave me a Gateway, I'd sell it on eBay and buy something else. We have them at work and they've given us nothing but trouble. They lock up at random times, the wireless doesn't work worth a damn, and I hate them.

Just my personal opinion.

I recomend the 6809, but I'm biased since I have one. I'm a graduate student and so I use this bad boy for lots of Office programs and other work stuff and it runs very nicely. I am also using to play games and it's great for those too. Overall it's a very solid machine and you really cant beat the price. Hope this was helpful!

M6809!!!!!!

While the 64-bit thing doesn't seem to have an immediate future (hopefully it will soon), you can't beat the 32-bit performance. And for the price, I myself couldn't say no.

M6809! Especially for working on reports etc. However there are a couple of things to keep in mind:

1: Weight...it is not bad in my opinion however if your kid is going to be luggin it around all day from class to class... !

2: Battery life is not bad at all. I normally get about 3 hours just running simple programs as web browser and EditPro for coding. Might want to consider an extra battery for the college kid if she is going all day and might not be able to plug the lap top in.

Other than that, I think this is a SOLID purchase for the money!!! Took me several months to make the decision to buy and I have not had any regrets in it.
