Does hyper threading have any kind of OS dependency? I'm kinda assuming Windows2000 supports it, but only b/c i haven't heard otherwise...

I was curious about this too since I would like to use W2K Pro. Apparently, Intel does not recommend enabling HT when running W2K. http://www.intel.com/support/platform/ht/os.htm

It's a licensing conspiracy thing (like all those big companies that have the "Dell recommneds Windows XP" notices on their pages). It's all about money.

Ok, I have a quick question. I have always believed that HT would only work on the pro version of xp (and other 2 proc operating systmes) and not the home version because the home version does not support multi-procs. I read a post somewhere else (I think it was in the alienware forum, but anyways), however, that home supported procs with hyper threading. Is this the case, and if so, does home secretly support multi proc systems, and ms just doesn't want people to know about it?

I was trouble shooting my laptop and wanted to turn off the HT, but every time I turn off HT (bios), XP would hang. Any way of solving my problem.
