Major Help - My configured laptop got shot down and I need to reconfigure! - Page 6

My dad actually made a configuration.... here's the following:

CX-5
1.7 Dothan
60 gig 5400 RPM HD
512 MB
Intel Wireless-G
Preformatted-HD Only

$1,648 + shipping cost (2% student discount not applied yet)

What'd you guys think? Go for Hypersonic? (I still can't figure out how to get a 3% discount)

Is it worth for me to add a hundred more for the faster HD? Or should I goto ibuypower.com or rjtech.com or something?
personally i think the 7200 rpm drive is worth it, but you may find 5400 is perfectly fine.

hypersonic's price for the service you get looks good with that discount imo
post #103 of 126
if you're not using for very intense things like really new games or, if you do, you don't mind long load times, then a 5400rpm drive should be fine...i think. man i wish i was eligible for the student discount...but i guess being in 8th grade doesn't count.

if your good with computers, u can choose not to have memory included and buy it seperately. this will take 140 off the price and new memory from a store will cost you about 100
post #105 of 126
but you have to think to yourself: are the $40-50 savings really worth it? IMO, not really.
imho, yes. If i gave you 40 bucks to snap in a DIMM, I'm sure you would do it.
that's a different story altogether, because i would be perfectly willing to perform such a menial task for such a great price. however, if you're looking for less of a hassle/more convenience then why not just spend the $40-50 to have the laptop come with the RAM?
because it's not worth $40-50 when i can do it myself? i dont understand.
never mind, we agree to disagree, eh? i was just saying that it's more convenient, not that it's worth it.
im just saying trying telling him that so the price can be lowered a little so he can get the 7200 rpm drive
post #111 of 126
oh, in that case, then it does sorta make sense. but doesn't the hard drive cost more on the site as well? me confused....
yea but theres no option to not have the hrd drive included and it only costs 100 bucks to upgrade to the 7200 rpm model
post #113 of 126
true, but you could always sell the shxtty basic one that you got with the comp and then go buy a 7k60. that's what I'm gonna do with my soon-to-be-ordered ferrari 3200.

congrats crellion, wish i were you right now... speaking of purchasing laptops, as of now i have a july 20th deadline for purchasing a laptop, and would like to get it around the end of july-early august. currently i'm looking at either an acer ferrari 3200, sager 4750, or abs mayhem g3 (not sure about the sager though because i was just trying out a powerbook 17" and its rather huge). which of these would be most likely to ship within my arrival time range assuming that it's available when i want to buy it?
Ok, why don't you take the $1500 or so from your Dad and work for the rest to buy your perfect P.C. I don't know how old you are but you sound young and spoiled. Why don't you get little part time gig, mow some lawns or something. Earn the rest and then you'll be happy. Just my 2cents and sorry if I came off harsh.
yeah i agree with tresmith...i have to pay for every cent of my laptop i am buying for college...so i would say stop complaining
post #119 of 126
were you talking to me? because i wasn't complaining and by no means am i a spoiled little sh!t. FYI, smartass, i do have to pay for my laptop, but since i don't have the money right this second, my parents are willing to loan me the difference until i can pay them back. if that makes me spoiled, then so be it. and to get a little bit more off topic, wtf makes you think that i'm spoiled in the first place, huh?
wasn't talking about you
