That's a GREAT visual aid. I'd give you a gold star, but my kids have 'em all over the house now...

When viewing a 4:3 source, a 17" 16:9 monitor has roughly the same image size as a 14" 4:3 monitor and will show vertical black bars on either side of the source.

When viewing a 16:9 source, a 17" 4:3 monitor has roughly the same image size as a 15.4" 16:9 monitor and will show horizontal black bars on top and bottom of the source.

But a 15.4" 16:9 monitor, viewing 4:3 source, only has roughly the same image size as a 12.9" 4:3 monitor. Gettin' down there.

Just some thoughts...

OK, I've made page where you can "visually" compare different display sizes with different source formats. Hope this will be helpfull tool.

Let me know if there is any problem.

Here is a new Acer Aspire 1700,

Looks like this isn't widescreen? And take a look on price tag!
Will be this beauty available on PCTorque?

It has just 1200×1024 resolution and integrated SIS graphics. I can't imagine who will need this?

Probably we will have to wait long for decent high performance large displays. 16" UXGA will rule for long time.
