Compal 56 out of the box impressions

Thread Starter
Well I picked up my Compal56 today, and just unpacked it. So far it sounds like I got the standard package: notebook, power cables, driver CD, free software, instruction CD rom, "Getting Started" pamphlet, cheap notebook bag.

Everything arrived safely, the only annoying touch being that my driver CD Rom was tucked away in one of the notebook bag pouches, and took a few panicked seconds to locate.

Out of the box, turned on, and the lights in the room dimmed: I have a bit of light leakage from the top right corner, but as others have explained, to see it I have to pretty much be looking at the notebook from the side, nose pressed against the screen. As I don't plan on doing any work on my notebook from this position, I have decided, for me, that it is no big deal.

In all black you can definitely see a gradation in the light from bottom to top, but again, I don't plan on doing a lot of work on a completely black screen with no programs running, so I have also decided this is not a problem.

I am running memtest86 right now so have not seen what the screen looks like with multiple colors on it. However, the light gradiation is not noticeable on the all blue memtest86 screen.

I am off to bed and will let memtest86 run overnight, and charge up the battery, then install the operating system tomorrow.

So far so good.

millers:

Due to the current technology, slight light leakage appears even on expensive notebooks and external LCD displays. Disregard artificial tests like the Windows screen saver. If you don't notice anything annoying with your usual programs, just enjoy your new notebook!
