Inspiron XPS Problems - Fans run full blast when resuming from standby

Occasionally, not always, I'll close my lid and open it a few minutes later, and the fans on my XPS start blaring and never calm down. To fix it, I have to reboot. Has anyone else had this problem? It's kind of annoying.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

A program could be hanging in the system when it comes out of standby. Hit CTRL-ALT-DEL .. look at the Processes Tab and look to see if any of the programs are using excessive CPU cycles (50% or greater) when the fan is running full like that ...

If you are leaving it on when closing the lid, remember you are blocking a fan intake so of course it will get a bit hotter and the fans will rev up....

No program is hanging, and I don't think blocking the fan intake will matter much since the system goes into standby when the lid is closed. The fans remain at max until I reboot.

Does I8fanGUI work on XPS, at least in the observer mode? If yes, its output might help in troubleshooting.

I've never tried fanGUI.

I was planning on buying an external monitor for my IXPS (the 2001 Dell FLatpanel) and permanently closing the lid using an external mouse and keyboard, would obstructing that fan intake cause serious problems?

When this happens to me, it is because the process 'WZCSLDR.exe' is using up to 50% of the CPU cycles for whatever reason...I've had this happen after resuming from standby and also when coming out of games that I had been playing awhile and seemed to 'bog down' for some reason...as soon as I hit 'End Process' for that proggie, the fans shut down and everything is back to normal.

What the hell is that thing, anyway? I think it has something to do with the 3rd party PCMCIA card I use (D-Link AirPlus Extreme-G)...

Anyhow, your problem might be that some background app under the 'processes' menu of Task Manager is hogging your CPU and forcing it crank when there's no reason...

Hey, thanks, bud...I'm going to demolish that crap right away!

I have a new XPS and had this "fan full blast" issue happen on the first day. My screen would not come on either. There was nothing I could do. So I pushed the power button until it turned completely off, rebooted, and haven't had the problem since. (I have never seen this wzcsld thing in my process list.)

I have noticed a hangup issue related to networking whereby if I put my LAN connection and wireless in a bridge, the wireless will at times completely lockup the system. I had to revert to not bridging them to get realiable operation.

OT: Hey, what is the advantage of 'bridging' anyway? I've seen the option in XP, but had no clue what it's for...

Also, the wzcsldr.exe program is specific to my 3rd-party D-link wireless ethernet software, so no one else should have the problem unless they install the same card...I should have made that clearer in my earlier post. Thanks to KCK, I uninstalled the thing, and everything still works great!

Glad to be of help, hammermd!

I get the same thing in my 9100 and its really aggrivating.

Hi. This happens to me on my 9100 as well (the full fan blast). However, I don't have wzcsldr.exe running in my processes list...any ideas why then?

I'm glad to know I'm not the only person with this issues. I don't have the wzcsldr.exe running either. If anyone with this problem finds a resolution, please reply!

no wzcsldr.exe here

I have a dell expert tech calling me tomorrow. I will try to remember to bring this up.
