Hey jam, i used the tweak and couldn't connect to the internet via my wireless router to my broadband connection. I found the service that let me reconnect once i enabled it, it's called "wireless zero configuration."

anyone mess with the pagefile?

Just wondering if anyone has done alittle messing around with the pagefile tweaking,,, i use partition magic 7 and was wondering if using a seperate partition to use as a pagefile is really the way to go?
i have a solid continuse block of pagefile on my HD with is located in my main C drive,, but have read that is not a really efficient way of operating..
anyone know more about this?,

Tweaks!

What do I need to restart so I can create dialup connections? After installing the reg tweaks I was unable to connect with my wireless card and my sprint connetion card.

some people have had problems with dial up when using this tweak...

but it should not effect your wireless at all... what kind of wireless card do you have? linksys? netgear? d-link?

I fyou have major trouble with Jammaster tweak then there may be a service it turns off that you need.

Not that this is at all Jammasters fault! In this case you need to go through your services and weed out the ones ou need formthe ones you don't this may take a while but the end result is better preformance.

You can use this as a guide

http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm

to reset back to normal default settings you can use these

Defautl Pro Services
http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/Files/DefaultProAll.zip

Default Home Services
http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/File...ultHomeAll.zip

P.S. just as a note I did not create these they can be found at

www.blackviper.com
Gota give credit where its due.

note: the gamin and superteaks will disable your dial up connections and modems, so if you dial-up you want to go with a "safe" or "internet gateway" configuration

who's still on dial-up?

For some reason, when I installed teh registry tweak, my XP theme was gone (blue, green, silver..) and when I used my old registry, it's still gone.. any ideas?
Looks like it jsut turend your themes service off just goto your services.

Right click my computer > Manage > services and appliactions >services

Look for the themes services. righ click it set it back to automatic and then start the sevice

If that does not work

Right click my computer > goto properties > advanced >preforance , settings> tell it to adjust for best apearance you can also tweak all the visual stuff you want in there.

dayam.. I ran this tweak and it gives quite a boost in performance. If feels like I'm on a freshly formatted computer. Although themes have stayed intact, my wirelesss connection was gone. I turned "Wireless Zero configuration" on and set it to automatic and whoala wireless works.

Thnks for the "auto-tweak" Jammaster. I shoulda come up with this a long time ago.

One thing I noticed after I did this tweak was that I don't have icons of the programs that are currently running in the taskbar anymore. I've looked for a service that would be associated with this and googled it. Does anyone here know how I can get the icons to show on the taskbar? (not the quicklaunch)

Thank goodness for system restore . I know most of you guys have had great success with this, so I doubt it is bad but it really fubared my system! It took windows twice as long to boot up once I applied it and restarted and when I tried to reapply my backup reg file it told me it was corrupt!!! So, I paniced for a minute and then finaly found the system restore under msconfig. It didn't go at first so I had to reboot with everything enabled and then I could use it to restore back to just earlier today (I had installed some software this morning so it created a restore point). Everything went on me when I applied it, it was scary. That and I checked the stuff running and it was not any different from what I have now. With the reg tweak I had 29 stuff running and I usually have 33 so I figured it didn't do much for me. My comp starts right up now, no delays and is fast as heck so I am not going to try that again .

I have exported another registry tweak that enables level 2 cache (512KB) and turns on wireless config. Personally, I find that the Windows GUI is a better frontend than the Linksys wireless config utility. If anyone is interested let me know, I'd have to dig up my laptop from my bag somewhere and post it.
I just tried this and I went from having 35 processes to only 30 after the reg tweak. Tried to go back to my backup and now its saying that it did not complete properly. How do I find out what was applied from the original and what was left from the tweak... short of going line by line through the reg files?

personally I use a proggie called FS Autostart - it allows you to specify what services/progs you want to kill. You save this as a profile and from then on at the push of a button you can execute the command that does all the tweaks for you. You can always add/remove things from the profile too ....

Brucie Bonus !
