Error loading C:\WINDOWS\image.dll

I keep getting this when I boot up my machine, its quite annoying, anyone know what the problem could be?

It has to be something you installed, I looked at a couple of XP installs and they don't even have that file. It is uncommon for an application to install into the windows folder.

It also looks like you have been hijacked.

You can get "un-hijacked" here...

You should install all the windows updates to prevent a future hijack.

Take a look at this: http://www.computercops.biz/modules....topic&p=186850

That & get a copy of the unhijacked as TomD indicated.

This might be a better place to look: http://delltalk.us.dell.com/supportf...ssage.id=12933

alright thanks guys ill try that out. could it be because I removed some of the files apart of the hijack? ive ran virus scans and things and it found a few trojans and the like, and did a registry mechanic to a while ago.

ill see what happens I guess.

doesnt work guys, doesnt be seeming to work for anyone in those threads

If it's a trojan or spyware disguised as a program or process, then I think you could open up Task Manager when the error dialog is being displayed, and then shut down the processes one by one until the error dialog disappears. From that you can figure out which program is causing it, and set out to clean out its registry entries and program files.

yea I have ad-aware, doesnt find it for anyone. next time I reboot I will try what you said on ending tasks untill its gone, as long as it doesnt claim itself as necessary/unclosable

You can also try this fix:

http://lop.com/new_uninstall.exe

Very agressive removal tool.

ok tom I dont plan on running that, a 64k program with no icon that comes from a "search the web" website? jackass.

Wow, I have downloaded that same .exe file in the past to eliminate hijacks. Soembody must be pulling something, real sorry about that. I have the real version, that is clean if you would like me to PM it to you.

new_uninstall really was a great tool for killing hijacks, apparently the name has been taken by another. I'm glad you didn't run that! Sorry about that!

Wait, I grabbed that file and ran a binary comparison to a know legit copy, they are the same. That file is an uninstaller for hijacks, I just had to double check after your comments about the file.

If you don't want to run it, that's fine, I just had to know that I didn't send you somewhere to make a hijacked PC even worse!
