Are we talking about Satellite P25-S670? I’m sorry I never heard of S607.
It could be something weird with XP Media Center Edition – I never used it before. But here are some thoughts:
You have office installed? If yes, then look in your startup folder and delete all office shortcuts. Office has this silly indexer thing which is running whenever it pleases, searching for office documents ...etc.
Also, Toshiba installs CD/DVD silencer soft. on their machines - make sure it does not startup in your system tray. Stop Toshiba's CDRW – Drag and Drag CD/DVD - utility from starting up as well.
If it is S670 we are talking about, you should have a 80GB 5400RPM HDD/Plenty Fast. A 7200-RPM HDD is great, but do you really want to mess with it? If I had S670 I would wipe the drive and install XP Pro. All the drivers are available on the Restore CD/DVD. But that’s just me. It might be this silly Windows XP Media Center 2004 that is bugging your system down.
I can’t think of anything else right now – if I do I shall post it.
