Here are some photos of the screen. The pics dont do it justice. I shot it without flash and so you will so some camera shake (vibration).

There is no bluetooth on this model (sucks).
The keyboard types nice but the layout in unnecessarily squished.
Can't get the S1 key to work.
TV Tuner is the tits!!! Love it.
Sound on the external speaker is so-so.
WIFI is not as good as on the POwerMac. I have a PowerMac G4 and it retains connection when the SONY loses it. But it is no worse than my IBM X30 (owned it before the A190).

Screen resolution is absolutely remarkable. It is so fine it is unbelievable. And no dead pixels.

Thanks to whoever mentioned COMPUSA. I saved Sales Tax by going to Delaware to get it (I live in Philly), and on top of it, there was a $150 rebate for fathers day. Oh, and I have been using it non stop since yesterday and it doesnt get hot at all.

Canceled my SAger 8790 order and got this instead. And no waiting time.

its based on rf but used to utilize peripihals in conjunction with the bluetooth notebook

rather than having an RF adapter that sticks out, bluetooth is just an internal one that works with all bluetooth devices

u can for example synchronze ur address book and notes from your bluetooth pda/phone to your laptop with a push of a button no wires... or u could use a bluetooth wireless mouse w/o any dongles sticking out etc

its nice to have and its effective range is 30meters
wow 30meters? I think not.

Purchased Sony Vaio A190

Was waiting to see if other new machines were coming out but my IBM A31P crashed on Friday. So purchased Sony A190 at CompUSA on Saturday. Screen was the big selling point. The Sony is very quiet as well.

Returned a Dell XPS about a month ago because I hated the bulk and screen was a disappointment.

Still restoring stuff so when I get up to speed I'll run some benchmarks.

Let me just say that I got my A190 today and it is everything that I expected it to be and more. There was not a single dead pixel on the screen, and the video recording with the AV Dock is painless and flawless. I like the little touches on the laptop such as the mute button on top, and the overall asthetic design of the laptop. I think the speakers sound great, but as others have said they could sound better with a sub.

Did I mention that I can't even look at my 17" 1280x1024 monitor anymore because it hurts my eyes because it is so big? Once you go to WUXGA, there's no turning back. And for those of you who think you won't be able to see anything, trust me, it's definately not a problem on this laptop.

Did you get the S1 key to work? Whenever I press the S1 key, it takes me to Notebook setup. (Even though in Setup, it says Gigapocket)...

My S1 key works... It takes me directly to the Gigapocket Recording program. I didn't even mess with the settings with it yet, so I can say that it came out of the box working fine.

Hopefully I will be getting the $200 eCoupon soon from SonyStyle.com as I placed my order there. I will probably buy a battery, but I could use it to purchase the 2 year accidental damage coverage plan... Hmmm... Decisions.. Decisions...

I am also new to benchmarking, so could someone give me some guidelines as how to interpret the numbers Hawkeye gave above?

I can't vouch for 30 meters because I've never tried that far, but I can vouch for about 30 feet. At work I was showing off (took my Logitech MX 900 mouse to work) how Bluetooth works. I took my mouse across to the other end of the office and moved it around on someone else's desk while they looked at my computer and the mouse moved just like I was sitting next to it. So definitely works @ 30 feet 30m, I don't know, though.

If I get a chance, I'll try.
