Dilemma: Dell or internetishop Please help - Page 2

hmm... right... but if the point is that dell has better service, and both companies use outsourcing...

i thought that is what we were talking about here

Not only better service. Dell will be around for a LONG time whereas internetishop could go out of business next week. The point is that if I ever have a problem with my dell, I can always have it fixed whether under warranty or not.

definitely right about that, dell continues to hold the top market share in the laptop world and won't release it due to the (previous) ineptitude of the HP execs (trying vainly now to pick up on build-to-order, but dell won that battle years and years ago). HP picking up compaq and recently slashing profit margins in an attempt to lower notebooks costs might get them back in the game, but for sure, dell's never looking to be out of business while someone with a halfway decent MBA still works at the company.

internetishop has been around 16 years and appears doing pretty well, so i wouldn't say they're going out of business tomorrow or even next year, but ehh... they ain't in the Times.

Wow 16 years? I had no idea they have been in business for that long. But another thing that worried me about internetishop was their reseller rating (4.7 or something else in the 4's) and some of the customer ratings.
Well, Dell has something like a 2.0 rating, its pretty bad. But dell gets alot of non tech savy ppl, so they probbaly dont know how to even find teh site to post good reviews.

Even as someone who is currently down on Dell, I have to totally agree with Enderet. If you can afford it, ALWAYS go for the Complete Care warranty with any Dell notebook. It covers absolutely everything except theft, and theft is usually covered under homeowners/renters insurance (although you may want to schedule the notebook to avoid the deductible if there is a claim.) Again, Complete Care is a fantastic warranty, and is offered everywhere except Florida.

Dell parts for that notebook will be abundant for quite some time, and there is a vast knowledge base both on these forums and on the Dell forums, regarding the 8600, something which the ECS crowd doesnt even come close to. After your warranty runs out, and you want to fix it, you can always just pay Dell, but with the ECS, who will be there to get paid to fix it, if the parts might not even be available.

I realize that these events are quite hypothetical, but they can always happen.

Sorry, didn't know that.
However, if there is an address in New Jersey you could use....

y is there no support in new york!?
There is support in New York, is is only Complete Care which is not offered. Complete Care is for accidental damage to a notebook, and is offered by Dell for an additional cost above and beyond the normal warranty.
With Complete Care, you can run your notebook over with a car, or pour a beer into it. As long as you say it was an accident, you are covered (it does not cover intentional damage, obviously).
It can be combined with a mail-in or onsite warranty. Something about New York state law that prevents them from offering it there, I guess. Again, I am not currently a Dell proponent. (Really bad deal with my notebook, I won't post it again, PM if you need details).

raj, this is internetishop on ebay

http://stores.ebay.com/internetishop-com

~40,000 transacations with ~98% positive feedback. that's pretty good.

reseller ratings has like 150 opinions, it's not a big enough sample size
post #33 of 36
i think thatsa pretty fraking amazing 40,000 sales is alot.
Great deal from internetishop, no doubt! I may buy from them too.

One thing about eBay ratings is that people give feedback right after the item is shipped to them. If it's shipped promptly, they'll leave positive feedback. If they have problems later and are unhappy with the way the seller handles them, they cannot leave any more feedback.
yeah true, but i guarentee out of that 2 percent that btiched about the item or service it was over somethign stupid, even the best of sellers have 1 or 2% rotton apples
post #36 of 36
Well, for resellerratings, they're no newegg (9.74), but like someone said previously, Dell's a frickin 2.91

I'm about 50/50 with my Dell experiences so far
