uhm... i would list 20+ programs i use on the PC everyday, but you wouldn't know the names of any of them, so what would be the point.

actually that is the point, there are no mac equivalents for them.

don't be silly and think i'm a blind mac hater, i love mac osX for a lot of reasons-- why hasn't someone imitated their alt-tab graphical interface gui?????? we'll have to wait for longhorn to come anywhere close.

but, i can't do real work on a mac. unfortunately, it doesn't look like i'll ever be able to since mac is satisfied with its target audience. i guess it might be a different story if i was an audio / video engineer, then i might be able to get by, but that's a pretty specific constraint.

i guess i should take a windows gui programming class... darnit

I am not famailar with OSX' lt-tab GUI, but if it's main purpose is to display the contents of the window in a little display area as you are switching between the various windows, then there is a power toy for windows that does just that. I've been using it for a while.

really??? can you link me to it??? does it run as smooth / quickly as it does on a mac?

http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...ertoySetup.exe

It's relatively fast. Does not affect loading times significantly. It does consume 2MB memory space. Also if the program window is too big or complex it may take a little while for the preview to appear.

thanks a lot, i will try it out when i get home.

Hmmm...when you are talking about Window Switching on the Mac, are you talking about the Command-Tab utility or Expose? The Mac Command-Tab is rather plain and the WinXP Powertoy offers more functionality. But if you are talking about Expose, well, that has no PC equivalent (that I know of...I am sure there are third party programs that do a similar task, but must necessarily consume a lot of system resources).

i mean umm.... let me try to explain it if i can. i don't know the mac key commands, but it's just switching between open programs, like alt-tabbing in windows. in OSX there is this feature where you can push all the open appz out to the background with their opacity dimmed, and it dynamically allocates screenspace to compensate for the programs you have open. then (i think this is what u can do) you can click directly on the one you want to bring to the front, or hit a key switch so its highlighted and brought to the front. the reason it is so cool to me is that it allows you to see the actual content in each of your tabbed applications (very quickly somehow) and the dynamic spacing of them is very intuitive (hard to explain). is this what that windows app does?

What you are talking about is the Mac Expose. This is not the same as alt-tabbing (or command-tab on Mac, which is very similar to alt-tab in windows). I guess this feature is not officially supported on Windows. But since it is a cool feature in OS X, you can bet there are tons of programs meant to imitate it on Windows. Just do a google search for Windows Expose and you will find a few.

ahh, i see. i guess i never found it before because i didn't know the name of the feature. here is what i have found:

leading to

http://www.oxygen-inc.com/premium/InsaniSoft/iEx.htm

unfortunately they appear to be slow / cost money, from what i can see. i will test iEX out soon...
