totally stumped on video capture

Thread Starter
Hi,
I have windows 2000 pro with PowerVCR on my NP8886.I followed all the instructions in the manual to setup my machine, and installed PowerVCR and PowerDVD after that.PowerVCR works beautifully but the recording doesnot capture any audio.I can see the recorded video but no audio just some crackling sound.I have gone through all the threads in this forum and the help on avermedia.com but no luck.Someone suggested using Aux instead of the default ace audio. But there is no such choice in the dropdown.Any ideas?

-Thanks

Abihjeet,

1. Double click on the Volume icon in the lower right tray of your screen. Make sure that the Aux is not muted for Playback.

2. Next, click on Options, select Recording. Select Aux instead of TVTuner.

3. You should now be able to record the Audio if you are using the Line-in jack.

Whenever you are starting a new recording session with PowerVCR, repeat the above. (For some reason, the Volume defaults to muted Aux for Playback and TVTuner for recording.)

I installed the latest version of the TV Tuner drivers from Sager's site, and finally I can record video without it crashing. The video quality when playing is better than I expected, but the recorded quality is less than I expected. I've increased the recorded size to 640 X 480, and increased the video bit rate to where it's taking 45 MBytes/minute, and the quality is reasonable. At this rate it would fill a DVD in a little over an hour and a half, so I guess this is OK. What settings do the more experienced of you recommend for recording best video, and then should/could I use another DVD compression program to reduce the size further? Also, when using the TV Studio program, the audio is soft, even though I have everything set to maximum volume (this is recording using the F-Connector input). Playback is softer yet, even when I use the time-shift function, as soon as I click time-shift the volume drops. Anyone else having this problem, and any solutions?

Thanks,

Daryl

I figured out how to fix the playback volume with TV Studio on my own. I needed to increase the record volume for Aux in the Record Volume control panel, available by double clicking the speaker icon in the system tray, going to Options, then properties, selecting Recording Control, adding a volume control for Aux by checking its box in the list, and setting the volume control to maximum.
